Hello and welcome to my profile! I believe that anyone can benefit from therapy. My goal is to create a safe and therapeutic environment for each of my clients. I like to use the first three sessions to get to know the client, establish trust and identify what it is they want to work on. Throughout treatment it is important to me that the client feels as though they are in control of their journey. I like to view myself as a guide for the client while they explore areas that need our attention.

After 35 years practicing as a clinical psychologist I have come to understand that effective treatment must be determined specifically for each client and applied in a respectful and cooperative manner. Treatment choices are made based on the uniqueness of the individual, his or her goals, and current life circumstances. They may include behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, in-depth therapy, or couples and family therapy. One treatment modality is not appropriate for all.

Providing pastoral counseling to individuals and couples for over 20 years within a religious context has provided a wealth of knowledge and experience since transitioning to the clinical side of counseling. This transition comes at mid-life with comprehensive experience in organizational leadership as well as spiritual formation and direction. Having been married for 25 years and having adopted 2 children, I have a passion for strengthening marriages, families and relationships.

You might look like you're holding it together on the outside—working, showing up for people, doing what you're supposed to—but inside things feel heavier than they should. When stress, anxiety, or relationship struggles keep resurfacing, it can leave you wondering why. I work with people who feel stuck and want something to change—whether that’s quieting anxiety, improving relationships, or understanding coping habits like substance use that no longer feel helpful. I help people understand what’s driving these experiences and how to move forward differently. Our work focuses on understanding what’s happening beneath the surface.

I believe therapy is most effective when there’s a genuine connection between the client and therapist. That’s why my first goal is always to build a strong, trusting relationship. From there, we’ll create a plan tailored to your needs and focused on the issues that matter most to you. You’re always in control of your treatment and choose the challenges you want to work on. Clients and colleagues describe me as down-to-earth and easygoing. I’m fully certified in EMDR through the International Institute and often use it to treat PTSD, trauma-related symptoms, anxiety disorders and address relationship stressors.

I understand that life is really hard sometimes. Life can break a heart, and yet, with support, it can also open it up. Life's challenges can open your heart to the world and new perspectives. Knowing that both can exist at the same time, the pain and suffering as well as the beauty and joy. Sometimes we have to sit in the pain we can't control or solve. That acceptance is scary and ultimately freeing. It provides clarity and allows you to be with what is. We've been taught that 'bad' emotions must be pushed away.

I love being a part of another person’s growth and healing. We all come from different backgrounds, degrees of traumatic experience, and have different stressors. As a therapist specializing in the APA approved Unified Mindfulness approach, I help clients develop the clarity, calm, and emotional resilience needed to navigate life with greater ease. Most importantly, I help people see their own strengths and integrate them into their lives, regardless of the difficulties from the past. By understanding your own motivations, desires, values, or possible confusion, we can work together to find a path toward healing and growth.

Many adults seeking ADHD or autism clarity are exhausted from years of masking, overcompensating, and being told they’re “too functional” to need support. Others have tried therapy but felt it didn’t fit how their brain works or focused more on coping than understanding. I specialize in adult ADHD and Autism assessment and therapy, with a focus on AuDHD (co-occurring ADHD and Autism), high-masking adults, and professionals seeking clarity, validation, and practical, affirming care. I also provide alcohol and drug, anger management, and court-ordered assessments.

Imagine someone deeply gripped by addiction, feeling overwhelmed and desperate for a way out. Physically, they suffer from symptoms like insomnia, fatigue, and malnutrition due to substance abuse. Emotionally, they're trapped in shame, guilt, and despair, straining relationships and damaging their self-worth. Mentally, cravings dominate their thoughts, leaving little room for anything else. Spiritually, they feel disconnected and purposeless, sinking deeper into isolation and despair. If this scenario is playing out in your life, it may be the right time to call. I will offer you a safe non-judgemental space to discuss these issues.

Clients have described me as 'very professional but also friendly, laid back and not intimidating.' I work very collaboratively with clients to set goals and find strategies which will be most helpful to them. Some clients prefer to focus more on addressing painful symptoms and circumstances (depression, anxiety, relationships or work difficulties) while others may want to focus more on personal growth. I am more than happy to help clients with either area or both simultaneously, as they often go hand in hand and serve to increase happiness and satisfaction in daily life.

Most people I work with share concerns about what's wrong with them and that shows up as self blame, doubt, judgment and insecurity. FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
