I have been in practice since 2001, specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression. I will work with children over 10, adolescents and adults. I'll work with individuals, couples and families. I believe that therapists are like shoes...some fit and some don't, and sometimes it could be the right shoe for the wrong occasion. I appreciate your interest, and would like to see if our therapeutic relationship is a comfortable fit.

As a former teacher, I also enjoy working with parents who want to understand more grounded ways to support their wonderful and complex children.
It is immensely human to feel stuck, lost, or disconnected. We might feel this way toward ourselves, in our relationships, and even about the life we are living. In therapy with me you will have the chance to slow down, get curious, build self-compassion, and experience ground support as you navigate your hardships. I help clients sit with emotions, understand deeper needs, and explore pain from a place of tenderness and strength. Our work can include depth, humor, problem-solving, practice, and learning. I am trauma-informed and practice emotion-focused therapy, parts work, attachment theory, and psychodynamic approaches.

I also help parents to better manage problems like sibling rivalry, emotional outbursts, or to prepare for an amicable separation/divorce.
Sometimes life gets complicated. Fortunately, you're not alone. At the Center for Collaborative Family Therapy, treatment is tailored to meet your specific needs, whether you're struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem, or whether you're struggling with problems in your relationships. Interpersonal problems are often at the root of psychological symptoms. Even children's difficulties are best addressed with those who care for them. It's not easy asking for help, but that first step can make all the difference. Please note that I do not take insurance.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
