Most of the people I work with are used to being the one others rely on either at work, in their family, or in relationships. But underneath that, they’re dealing with stress, overthinking, or feeling stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break.
I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and founder of Forge & Hour Therapy. I provide virtual therapy for adults across RI, MA, CT, and ME, helping clients navigate anxiety, trauma, relationships, and life transitions.

One of the issues I encounter a lot in therapy is people struggling with a diminished sense of purpose in their lives. I see this across the age span as transitions occur (e.g. death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a friendship, retirement, disability, adult offspring moving away or going no-contact, etc). With those losses we realize how much of our identity we built around those relationships; it can be hard to imagine what life could look like going forward. Depression and anxiety can ensue - inertia, lack of motivation to get out there and try to live the best life we have left within those realities of loss/sorrow.

Whether you're a teen, young adult, or a grown adult searching for support, it's important to identify a space rooted in honest reflection and practical guidance. I'm direct, sometimes informal, and not above interrupting you to say, "I'm going to stop you right there. Can we address what you just said?" My approach blends relational depth with evidence-based strategies; so individuals not only feel understood, but also leave with tools they can use on their own to expand their capacity to resolve conflicts, improve relationships, reduce intensity of emotions, and embrace personal accountability.

The most difficult part of making the changes in your life is learning who to turn to when you need guidance and support. Many adolescents and young adults simply need someone they can trust, feel safe with, and know truly wants to listen. My goal is to help clients not only learn to trust me, but also themselves. They will learn to build the confidence, insight, and self-awareness they need to more through life with greater clarity and resilience.
As a Certified ARISE interventionist, I also support families coping with a loved one's addiction, helping them navigate boundaries, communication and connection.

I specialize in helping men who struggle with isolation, feelings of anxiety and depression, blocks to intimacy, addiction to pornography, lack of male friends, a feeling of being lost or without a deep sense of purpose, or feeling numb and disconnected from life. As men, we are socialized to keep everything to ourselves, which makes it hard for us to admit when we're lonely, hurting, and in need of support. Many of us grew up with fathers that were absent, abusive, or detached from us emotionally, leaving us without a respectable model of masculinity and without much direction in life.

The therapy space can be used for many types of healing experiences. I believe in client-guided therapy, taking cues from the individuals I work with in terms of directiveness and approach. Having previously worked in a variety of settings from schools to substance treatment clinics, I understand the deep need for flexibility, validation, and strong communication.

Pursuing therapy represents a desire to heal. Whether dealing with a new challenge or an old wound, my work with clients is focused on supporting the process of healing and learning to "let go" of the harmful patterns that get in the way of feeling satisfaction, peace, and fulfillment in our lives and relationships. As a psychotherapist, my goal is to create an environment in which you can pause, reflect, and feel supported in acknowledging the emotions that many of us learn to avoid, dismiss, and push down.

Challenges are part of life—but many people find themselves feeling stuck, reactive, or disconnected without a clear way forward. This often shows up during stressful transitions like illness, relationship issues, career changes, or retirement. I help clients understand what’s driving their reactions and communication patterns, and develop more effective ways of responding. My approach is structured, practical, and focused on what works in real life—not just conversation, but learning how to handle stress, conflict, and relationships more effectively.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
