I have been in practice since 2001, specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression. I will work with children over 10, adolescents and adults. I'll work with individuals, couples and families. I believe that therapists are like shoes...some fit and some don't, and sometimes it could be the right shoe for the wrong occasion. I appreciate your interest, and would like to see if our therapeutic relationship is a comfortable fit.

I have received specialized training supporting members of families formed through adoption.
With teens and adults, my goal is to help identify damaging patterns and support new growth. In play therapy with children, I enjoy helping kids make sense of their feelings and experiences, learn healthy coping skills, and build lasting, secure attachments. Supporting parents and caregivers is an essential component of my work.

School-related problems, emotional regulation, and adoption are areas of specialty.
My own experiences as a misunderstood teen shaped my passion for helping young people feel heard, valued, and supported. School-related problems, emotional regulation, and adoption are areas of specialty, as is self-discovery and identity in young-adulthood. I have 30-years of experience as a school social worker and enjoy working with families.

We live in a time that is overwhelming - with information, with pressure to succeed and achieve, and we are increasingly lonely and isolated.  Through my work I hope to create a warm, compassionate space to explore how to live into this one precious life you have been given.  To get centered and grounded, even if very briefly, to find your beloved self – not the one that you perceive as broken or stuck or misunderstood.

You are a woman who wants to feel like you have your feet underneath you, but deep down you are struggling with constantly feeling on edge or disconnected from life. You may have had a life changing event or several events that are weighing heavily on you. You may be fed up trying to survive the day to day. While you might not remember a time when things didn’t feel this way, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to release the things weighing you down. You’re ready to have a better sense of control over your life. Most of all, you’re ready to transform into the best version of yourself.

Sometimes life gets complicated. Fortunately, you're not alone. At the Center for Collaborative Family Therapy, treatment is tailored to meet your specific needs, whether you're struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem, or whether you're struggling with problems in your relationships. Interpersonal problems are often at the root of psychological symptoms. Even children's difficulties are best addressed with those who care for them. It's not easy asking for help, but that first step can make all the difference. Please note that I do not take insurance.

Currently, I do not have any openings. I believe that everyone has a desire to be successful in their life, but sometimes lack the skills or supports to achieve that goal. My non-judgemental approach will help you feel more comfortable facing the difficulties that are causing you to feel incomplete. Counseling can be an active, dynamic process, that can be exciting, challenging, and even enjoyable! I have a keen interest in Men's issues, but work with clients of all genders. I also offer personal coaching and consulting, utilizing highly specialized Gestalt methods to improve effectiveness in all aspects of life.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
