Therapy can provide children a safe and supportive way to learn to identify and express their experiences and feelings; and make progress with social integration, growth, and development. They can develop skills to understand and work through psychosocial challenges. They have the opportunity to gain self-awareness and experience social and emotional success. Creating happiness is what parents strive for when raising children. In my practice, children will learn to identify their strengths, and become more skilled and confident in working through emotional stressors and skill deficits.

My ideal clients are adults who feel stuck in patterns of emotional avoidance, shutdown, or disconnection, especially in relationships or within themselves. They may struggle to name what they feel, tend to push through discomfort, or pull away when things feel hard. As a trained IFS therapist, we focus on developing a clearer understanding of what is happening internally, how different responses have formed, and how to relate to them with more clarity and self trust. This work supports staying more present, engaged, and grounded in daily life and relationships.

Life can be overwhelming-leaving little time or energy for peaceful introspection. I use a warm acceptance and humor to help clients face challenging dilemmas. Without understanding the motivation behind our impulses, we can lose our way, sometimes getting stuck for years, and developing maladaptive emotional coping difficulties. I help people recognize and overcome their self-limiting belief systems, generating greater self knowledge, confidence and having the ability to tolerate the emotional strains of contemporary living. I have over 20 years of work experience in the trauma field- working with both survivors and perpetrators of abuse.

At present, my practice is limited to men and women in the law enforcement community and their families. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in many medical facilities today and I am against the practice. I am making a statement: I don’t believe AI and the collection of voice recordings in a medical / psychotherapy office should happen. Be assured that I do not and I will not record therapy sessions. Treatment sessions are sacrosanct to me and therefore confidential.

I currently have openings! I specialize in working with older adolescents, young adults through mid life adults who are struggling with behavioral/emotional/or cognitive symptoms related to anxiety and stress. Looking below the surface many people uncover developmental trauma which unlike an intense event, happens through our developmental growth period, it is how we learned to see ourselves, sense our own innate human value and how we interacted with the world. This may show up in your life as perfectionism, difficulty with doing boundaries or being assertive, struggling to engage self care etc.

Hello, my name is John Thibodeau and I've been a counselor for 22 years. I meet clients where they are in life and provide a place where they can; let defenses down, express themselves freely, feel understood, reflect upon life experiences and patterns, process past and current trauma, develop practical tools and coping skills, and cultivate a life in which they feel more present and whole. I combine attentive listening and empathy with practical feedback and insights. And I warmly encourage clients to look at themselves and their lives with more curiosity and understanding, and less judgment.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
