I believe that people do the best they can in any given moment. Therapy can be a useful way of learning new skills, identifying maladaptive patterns and recognizing inherent strengths. Sometimes current life circumstances, past trauma or relational difficulties can leave us feeling confused or stuck. Having a safe, objective place to sort this out can be a healthy way to move forward. I love helping people find renewed energy, balance and peace.

I work together with children, adolescents, women, and their families, creatively and holistically. What is your story? Are you looking to get back to your true self or reach your potential? Do you need help rewriting your story or simply help to be more gentle with yourself? The best investment is in yourself.

**Please note: I am Telehealth ONLY.** Starting this journey of self exploration can be both exciting and scary. I want to be the one to help you become comfortable with the idea of changing your life. There are a few crucial pieces that help make therapy effective: client-therapist relationship, increasing self-awareness both in mind and body, and finding coping skills that work specifically for each person. I treat each and every client uniquely, as every person has a story that needs to be told and held sacredly. If you are looking to explore your inner self and wanting more peace in your life, I'm here to help!

We live in a complex world. Many of us can feel overwhelmed by the layers of stressors and demands upon us. While I do not possess the answers, I have strength in asking appropriate, pertinent questions, as well as opening the exploration of aspects of oneself that may be hidden from view. I work hard and ask the client to do the same. Through relationship we build safety and respect. This permits the bravery it takes to enter into the psychotherapeutic process. Ultimately, it is here that change can occur.

It is natural to seek support when we feel overwhelmed, confused, fearful or depressed. The therapeutic process offers us the opportunity to build on skills that we already have in order to find relief, hope and healing. My work combines practices of narrative therapy (examining the beliefs we have about ourselves), cognitive behavioral work (paying attention to our thoughts), expressive therapy (healing through art and writing) and mindfulness exercises.

Life is challenging and it just never stays the same! Sometimes we find ourselves in a rough patch where old patterns of behavior just don't work anymore but we don't know what else to do. I believe it's my job to help you find your way through to new answers and behaviors that serve you better. To me, the work of therapy is to find the courage within to change the things that you can, the acceptance to live with what you cannot and most importantly, to figure out which is which! I believe it is my role to help you find your way through this with compassion, humor and insight.

My work is informed by 25 years of professional experience and as a seasoned human being. I work with adults who are struggling with addiction, PTSD, depression, difficulty controlling emotions and behaviors, temporary stressful life circumstances, or organic illnesses who might benefit from talking with someone who is an active listener, offers a non-judgmental perspective, and someone who establishes a caring sense of connection and support. I have a deep understanding of how addiction, PTSD, loss, depression, and a sense of not knowing where to turn can feel.

I find working with people where ever they are at is my focus. I come into each session listening actively to what you say and what you are needing. I do not have a preconceived notion of what you need, that is work that we will do together, and we are to work together to figure out the best goals for you. I find my work a privilege working with people at their most vulnerable place. Thank you for your interest and my hope is you find what your looking for to help you in your life situation.

Problem solving is a process and offering strategies, improved perspective and healthy coping skills are all part of this process. Do you find yourself asking why your children behave the way they do? Why they don't appear to listen? Why are you always repeating yourself? Do you find yourself often stressed or worried? Are there days you wonder why nothing seems to get done? Are you looking to better define yourself and your own goals, looking to improve your self-confidence and your relationships?

Intelligent. Holistic. CBT and The Work are the foundation of my practice. Intelligent because they are evidence based and universal. Holistic because they incorporate the western medical model and the eastern spiritual model of health. You will begin to understand your own mind, your own unconscious habits, and a way out of confusion. You will see what is causing your suffering and how to heal. I offer walking-and-talking sessions outside in Hope Woods, sessions in the office, or Telehealth.

I believe that working with clients involves tailoring therapy to meet the needs of each client individually. I have worked with clients experiencing co-occurring disorders, anxiety, grief and loss, self-esteem issues, depression, adult life transitions, substance abuse, spirituality issues, relationship difficulties, and those who are alone without family support. Other clients I have worked with include students, adult children caring for parents, LGBTQs and refugees as they adjust to life in the U.S.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
