I help teens and adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns of taking care of everyone but themselves. Many are dependable and driven, yet still struggle to feel confident or connected to who they are. That struggle can take many forms: a harsh inner critic, old patterns that keep resurfacing, or a quiet sense of disconnection that’s hard to name. Therapy offers a space to slow down and tune into what’s happening beneath the surface. It’s about understanding and caring for the parts of you that often get overlooked so you can feel more grounded, authentic, and at ease within yourself.

Hello! I'm Dr. G - I believe therapy is transformative. That being said, therapy is not “one size fits all,” and finding what works for you is a critical part of the process. My personal style combines kindness and understanding with humor and honesty. I also believe understanding oneself and finding personal agency in powerless or overwhelming experiences is the unpinning to healing and freedom from suffering. Please reach out if you have any questions about therapy, mental health, or my practice.

Congratulations on having the courage to change and to ask for help. Life can be a stressful process for all of us. Sometimes we feel alone and afraid and wish we had someone to talk to outside of our immediate family and friends. Perhaps we've tried the same behaviors over and over and wonder why we don't have different results. It can be very helpful to talk to someone who can look at our concerns and difficulties from a different perspective and shed new light. Once we feel deeply understood and become more mindful of our own values and beliefs, we are able to try new healthier behaviors that help us get our needs met in life.

When we experience trauma, we often feel flooded with overwhelming emotions, physical sensations, and memories. I work with clients to help them identify the patterns their bodies and minds engage in due to past experiences. Once we recognize these patterns, we can encourage positive change. Through a trauma-informed approach and with the support of my equine co-therapist, we guide you in reconnecting with your body and understanding how trauma affects your nervous system. Together, we can explore how trauma manifests for you, reprocess those experiences, and work through challenging emotions. I work with folks ages 9 and up!

The pressures of life create stress that takes a major toll on our emotional, mental and physical well being. The traumas we experience throughout life (big and small) add up, and are stored in our bodies. Our nervous systems are often overwhelmed and exhausted, making it difficult to manage everything on our plate All of this can lead to feeling unfulfilled, anxious, numb, or stuck. I can help you move beyond the old patterns of defense and unlearn the limiting beliefs of the past. I will walk beside you as you heal old trauma and expand into the life you truly desire to be living.

Living with ADHD, AuDHD, or leftover feelings from a difficult childhood can be exhausting. You have big dreams and the drive to make them happen, yet getting organized, staying focused, or finishing projects feels impossible. Even simple tasks become overwhelming. Email, laundry, paperwork — they all pile up. Relationships are tricky, too. Social interactions can be confusing. Sometimes it feels like nobody really gets you. Life feels hard - but it doesn't have to stay this way.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
