I am currently accepting new clients. I firmly believe that everyone possesses the ability to heal and grow. My role in the process is to help bring forth awareness and assist in helping clients cultivate coping skills. I am particularly interested in the mind/body connection and believe that with the use of mindfulness, individuals can implement an integrative approach to facilitate multi-level healing. My philosophy taps into various parts of the self in order to create inner cohesion. By developing self-compassion and acceptance, we can begin to embrace our whole selves and manage anxiety , stress, and relational issues.

I utilize evidence based practices to treat women with fertility/assisted reproduction, miscarriage, postpartum support, anxiety , depression, relationship issues, post traumatic stress disorder and trauma.
At Headwaters Wellness, my goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental, laid-back environment where you can share your story and find ways to heal and move forward. I work together with children, adolescents, women, and their families, creatively and holistically. What is your story? Are you looking to get back to your true self or reach your potential? Do you need help rewriting your story or simply help to be more gentle with yourself? The best investment is in yourself.

Depression, generalized anxiety , social phobias, grief & life transitions are a few of my specialities.
I don't solve problems. What I do is work with clients and teach you how to problem solve!! And then we practice that skill together. No matter the age of my client nor the reason that brings them to my office, I want to be clear that this is a team approach. That having a neutral party to speak with; someone who will not judge but someone with whom you can share your concerns and issues can make all of the difference in the world in bringing about the changes that you desire.

I work with children, adolescents, and young adults, with emotional or behavioral difficulties. The issues I see most in my practice are: anxiety , depression, behavioral issues, and family relationship difficulties. I work primarily from a strengths-based, cognitive -behavioral approach, using psycho-education, coping skills training, and positive psychology. With adult clients, I explore the impact their family of origin has had -- good and bad---and help them develop healthy habits in response to those issues. Always, I feel the relationship between client and counselor is part of the healing. Currently I am taking only self pay

New Practice. Accepting new clients. Life events can cause us to experience a variety of feelings such as anxiety , uncertainty, sadness, frustration, anger and even hopelessness. Stress impacts our relationships, work, financial well being, and families. There are chapters in everyone's life that are overwhelming and during these times it is wise and healthy to process with someone who is objective and understanding. Counseling can assist us in becoming unstuck. Sometimes short term intervention is all that is needed. It is essential for our well being to sort through our concerns, questions and struggles.

Given the many challenges that life can hand us, it's easy to lose hope or feel overwhelmed. You are not alone. All too often our minds begin to take over filling our head with old messages that no longer serve us. Perhaps we are judging ourselves too harshly or feeling guilty for things that are out of our hands. Perhaps our heart is burdened with feelings of depression or anxiety . By exploring the importance of grounding ourselves in the present and practicing an awareness of being mindful, we can change our life patterns finding the inner peace that we strive for. Working together we can find hope in the present moment.

I also enjoy working with adults that struggle with anxiety , depression, parenting and basic life challenges.
Life is challenging and it just never stays the same! Sometimes we find ourselves in a rough patch where old patterns of behavior just don't work anymore but we don't know what else to do. I believe it's my job to help you find your way through to new answers and behaviors that serve you better. To me, the work of therapy is to find the courage within to change the things that you can, the acceptance to live with what you cannot and most importantly, to figure out which is which! I believe it is my role to help you find your way through this with compassion, humor and insight.

Are you struggling with anxiety , depression and confusion and are hoping for a better tomorrow? Life happens leaving us overwhelmed, confused and alone. When this occurs we look to others for help and at times we seek out an unbiased professional to help in the healing process. I have worked in many places throughout the United States and have treated many people regardless of age who are suffering because of difficult and or traumatic life experience. I have worked with military veterans, adolescents, professionals and individuals who have been severely traumatized and marginalized.

I have experience working with anxiety , depression, addiction, high conflict relationships, divorce related issues, trauma, marital difficulties, adolescents struggling with peer relationships, behavioral issues, and other areas of concern.
**Please note: I am Telehealth ONLY.** Starting this journey of self exploration can be both exciting and scary. I want to be the one to help you become comfortable with the idea of changing your life. There are a few crucial pieces that help make therapy effective: client-therapist relationship, increasing self-awareness both in mind and body, and finding coping skills that work specifically for each person. I treat each and every client uniquely, as every person has a story that needs to be told and held sacredly. If you are looking to explore your inner self and wanting more peace in your life, I'm here to help!

I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with anxiety and depression, and those who have been affected by trauma.
It is natural to seek support when we feel overwhelmed, confused, fearful or depressed. The therapeutic process offers us the opportunity to build on skills that we already have in order to find relief, hope and healing. My work combines practices of narrative therapy (examining the beliefs we have about ourselves), cognitive behavioral work (paying attention to our thoughts), expressive therapy (healing through art and writing) and mindfulness exercises.

My goal as a therapist is to empower clients to live more mindfully. I believe that we each have the power to gain insight into our thoughts; increase awareness and connection with our feelings; more effectively manage stress; and make the changes in our lives that are necessary to function more fully in relationships, and work. My role as a therapist is to facilitate this process. I work with clients on issues such as addictions, depression, anxiety , learning difficulties, conflicts within families/couples,and anger management.

I work with individuals (adolescents and adults) struggling with acute trauma, grief, depression, anxiety , mood instability, attachment issues, and adjustment issues.
Welcome! I know that we are living in some challenging times. There is a profound sense of burnout we are all feeling these days. When you couple that with depression, anxiety , trauma, and loss, it can feel overwhelming. There is hope. By sharing your challenges and learning new ways to cope, improvement and recovery are possible. I am a psychotherapist who provides online therapy to adults, adolescents, and families. I have been practicing social work for 30 years. I hold a Master's Degree and a Doctoral Degree in Social Work and am licensed in Maine as a clinical social worker.

I help adults work through behavioral health concerns including anxiety , depression, trauma, life challenges and changes both personally and relationally.
Currently, my primary work is with Individual Adults, in Kennebunk, Maine and Telehealth in Maine, Massachusetts and Florida. We all want to be happy. And many of us are happy much of the time as ordinary events pass through us without leaving a mark. And then, something happens and we're stuck. These events narrow our view of ourselves, our world and keep us from living to our full potential. Your problems affect who you are today and you want things to change. I can help you reduce what keeps you stuck so that you can move forward living your life in a more fulfilling and meaningful way.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
