Therapy can provide children a safe and supportive way to learn to identify and express their experiences and feelings; and make progress with social integration, growth, and development. They can develop skills to understand and work through psychosocial challenges. They have the opportunity to gain self-awareness and experience social and emotional success. Creating happiness is what parents strive for when raising children. In my practice, children will learn to identify their strengths, and become more skilled and confident in working through emotional stressors and skill deficits.

I believe empowering patients is the most effective way to create sustainable change. I believe my role in our relationship is to support you in both personal and emotional growth, at your pace. To be a catalyst. The therapeutic relationship is imperative for this to occur. I love people, and feel honored and humbled by those who entrust me to work along side them.

Welcome. If you have made your way to my page, there is a strong possibility that your heart has been broken. Perhaps you have experienced any one of 40+ losses that lead to grief and are experiencing: changes in eating/sleeping, fatigue, inability to focus, and overwhelming waves of emotion. Life has lost its meaning. People have told you to "be strong", "it takes time" and "keep busy". It's not working. Things aren't getting better. This is where I and Grief Recovery come in. Let's walk out of the darkness together. Please note we do not accept insurance. Services are self pay only.

After over 23 years in agency work I am transitioning to private practice. I am currently offering telehealth only, but will offer in-person sessions in Kennebunk, Maine, beginning the second week of December. I have worked in community mental health, and for the past 11 years, serving the veteran population in Southern Maine. My approach is primarily from an attachment perspective, recognizing that peoples' struggles come from multiple influences.

My goal as a therapist is to empower clients to live more mindfully. I believe that we each have the power to gain insight into our thoughts; increase awareness and connection with our feelings; more effectively manage stress; and make the changes in our lives that are necessary to function more fully in relationships, and work. My role as a therapist is to facilitate this process. I work with clients on issues such as addictions, depression, anxiety, learning difficulties, conflicts within families/couples,and anger management.

I am currently accepting new clients. I have seen that nearly everyone struggles at some point in life and with the right support, people can be empowered to change. I believe that an empathic and trusting relationship, one where people feel supported and safe to be themselves is essential for therapy to be successful. I strive to provide that safe space and help individuals access their internal strengths and sources of resilience. My goal is to help individuals integrate new or different approaches into their life so they can live their "best life", whatever that looks like to them.

I'm sorry, I am not accepting new clients. Hi, I'm Hannah! It can feel challenging to think about starting therapy and overwhelming to know what brings you or your family to seek support. What I know about therapy is that the best fit is usually based on the relationship between the therapist and the client (you). A lot of the time therapy is about how you feel talking to and sitting with that person. I look forward to connecting with you regarding office based therapy or Ecotherapy. Ecotherapy is about healing with nature, connecting to the environment and often takes place outdoors.

Addressing difficult issues and facing challenges and changes in one's life can be a very difficult process. I believe in taking a positive approach to this work and focusing on the strengths inherent in individuals, their families and other connections that serve in making this path easier.

Currently, my primary work is with Individual Adults, in Kennebunk, Maine and Telehealth in Maine, Massachusetts and Florida. We all want to be happy. And many of us are happy much of the time as ordinary events pass through us without leaving a mark. And then, something happens and we're stuck. These events narrow our view of ourselves, our world and keep us from living to our full potential. Your problems affect who you are today and you want things to change. I can help you reduce what keeps you stuck so that you can move forward living your life in a more fulfilling and meaningful way.

While the avenues of our lives seem very predictable, all too often that predictability falls to the way side. We summon the resources we know from our past. A feeling of being off balance, overwhelmed, misunderstood and at times alone can pressure our basic instincts. I am grateful to the individual who chooses to explore with me the answers they may already hold. The process of bringing concerns to the room and taking the time to look, study and explore individual needs and strengths begins the journey to self acceptance.

Life is challenging and it just never stays the same! Sometimes we find ourselves in a rough patch where old patterns of behavior just don't work anymore but we don't know what else to do. I believe it's my job to help you find your way through to new answers and behaviors that serve you better. To me, the work of therapy is to find the courage within to change the things that you can, the acceptance to live with what you cannot and most importantly, to figure out which is which! I believe it is my role to help you find your way through this with compassion, humor and insight.

Established Practice in Maine 2017. Life events can cause us to experience a variety of feelings such as anxiety, uncertainty, sadness, frustration, anger and even hopelessness. Stress impacts our relationships, work, financial well being, and families. There are chapters in everyone's life that are overwhelming and during these times it is wise and healthy to process with someone who is objective and understanding. Counseling can assist us in becoming unstuck. Sometimes short term intervention is all that is needed. Call to schedule an appointment.

Did you ever watch Boy Meets World growing up? If yes, skip the next two sentences. If no, then let me set the scene. A 90’s sitcom about the wholesome, suburban Philadelphia Matthews family, who have two teenage sons. The older brother, Eric, bonks his younger brother, Cory, in the forehead and says “Life’s tough, get a helmet.” While I don’t condone violence, I do agree that life can be tough sometimes. While wearing a helmet is beneficial in a lot of scenarios (i.e. riding a bike), it is not so beneficial in the emotional, social, psychological, or theoretical realms.

I believe that people do the best they can in any given moment. Therapy can be a useful way of learning new skills, identifying maladaptive patterns and recognizing inherent strengths. Sometimes current life circumstances, past trauma or relational difficulties can leave us feeling confused or stuck. Having a safe, objective place to sort this out can be a healthy way to move forward. I love helping people find renewed energy, balance and peace.

Given the many challenges that life can hand us, it's easy to lose hope or feel overwhelmed. You are not alone. All too often our minds begin to take over filling our head with old messages that no longer serve us. By exploring the importance of grounding ourselves in the present and practicing an awareness of being mindful, we can change our life patterns finding the inner peace that we strive for. Working together we can find hope in the present moment.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Kennebunk?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
