I believe in the uniqueness of each human being and that all people have inherent strengths. I know when a person seeks counseling it is because he/she is feeling overwhelmed or stuck. In the safety of a professional helping relationship you will address those areas as well as recognize and utilize your own strengths so you can move forward to resolve your problems. I work with people on a variety of difficult life issues and I meet each person where they are at. In addition to helping individual adults, I work with parents, families and children ages 7-18.

If you find yourself struggling to communicate, feeling misunderstood by those around you, or invalidated by the world, I create a space that is emotionally safe, validating, and holds opportunity for change. Nothing is static; everything is always changing, even when it doesn’t feel like it. I believe strongly that we are all doing the best we can but that with the right support, we can learn to do and feel better. Together, we can find strategies to safely cope with and soothe difficult emotions, while reducing patterns that may make life more painful or keep you feeling stuck.

Welcome, my name is Zack and I work with individuals and couples who are in need of support. Couples I work with may be having a difficult time communicating, feeling loved or understood, feeling lonely, dealing with infidelity, or managing intense conflict. I also see individuals experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, numbness, difficulty sleeping, childhood wounds, grief, self-harm, thoughts of suicide, and PTSD. My clients feel stuck, trapped, or weighed down and are looking for relief from the conflict they face. Ultimately, they are in need of a happier and more fullfilling life experience.

I approach therapy from a strong person centered perspective. I believe that all persons have the ability to change. I utilize an active listening, non-judgmental approach that allows clients to utilize their own native ability to solve their own problems. I believe that every person has a strong drive to expand and grow and to achieve their fullest potential. This potential can be frustrated by many of the challenges presented by life but it can never be eliminated. As I see therapy, it is a vehicle for a person to realize and release that innate potential.

I believe in life, and in the power of each one of us to grow and build a life worth living. Sometimes even having hope is hard, and life is so complex, with so many paths to choose from, that knowing even the next step seems impossible.... or it seems like there are no pathways at all, and each step is blocked. Take a bold step and explore the possibilities of an empowered life.

The stories we tend to hold about ourselves can shape our views about the world and our place in it. I am here to help you identify those unconscious beliefs you have about yourself and examine how these beliefs might be holding you back. Often when you are struggling it can feel like you are your own worst enemy. My goal is to help you better understand and accept yourself so that you can begin to work with your brain rather than continuing to fight against it.

At the Partnership for Trauma Recovery we believe that true healing happens when we find the courage to look at the root of the long standing patterns and difficulties we have. While learning to cope with the daily burdens of these patterns is an important skill, our philosophy is that simply learning to manage only places a bandage on the problem. In order to truly heal we have to look deeper into ourselves and try to determine where these patterns developed.

My approach to working with patients is called Mind-Body Integrative Psychotherapy. Mind-Body Integrative psychotherapy is an approach to healing ones emotional, spiritual and physical well being in the here and now while also giving the patient tools that create long-lasting positive changes. My approach blends conventional psychotherapeutic strategies, including the recommendation of medications when deemed necessary, with evidence-based, natural, less invasive therapies (e.g. dietary change, meditation, acupuncture, yoga, herbal medicine and therapeutic massage).

I help those searching for growth and transformation who experience depression, stress, anxiety, mood shifts, or the effects of trauma, as well as those who feel stuck in cycles of shame, self-doubt, or self-sabotage. Many are drawn to therapy not only to heal their pain, but also to rediscover creativity, explore who they are, and emerge into a deeper relationship with life. Therapy can be a process of reconnection and a reclaiming of personal power. Together we can build self-compassion, decrease suffering, and untangle old patterns. We can learn to experience more aliveness, joy, and love for ourselves and others.

We each have an authentic self, and things we know to be deeply true about our hearts, minds, identities and lives. I believe that no matter how confused we may feel, we can all find our way back to what is unique, creative and courageous in ourselves. These are wild times. There is nothing maladjusted about feeling anxious or depressed in a world that does not feel equitable or safe. My goal is not to help you adjust to broken things; it is to build upon the strengths of your identity, your values and your truth, and to hold space for all of the parts of you that need to be heard and seen.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
