Just like the gardener I am in my spare time, I wish to nurture your individual growth and support you to adapt and thrive in the garden of your life. I wish to understand who you are, find your strengths, feed your unique wants and needs, and root out the problems and issues that are getting in the way of your ability to blossom. Much like the roots of a plant, I believe that digging in and creating a safe place of acceptance, warmth, trust and empathy (the soil) provides the groundwork to explore challenges and aspirations in one’s life. In partnership, and with consistent care and intentional choices, your life can flourish.

As an EMDR Certified Therapist, I offer weekly sessions and specialize in half-day therapy retreats. Clients have shared that they feel “lighter,” “more present,” and “empowered” after completing a therapy retreat. Therapy retreats provide a space for the holistic healing of mind, body, and spirit. We take our time to meet the moment, listen inward, and discover what is needed. This format of therapy is structured, collaborative, and phase-oriented. With more time and space, we are able to heal psychological wounds in fewer days instead of over years in traditional therapy, accelerating relief from your symptoms.

When we experience chronic or traumatic stress, our bodies can get stuck in constant states of fight, flight, or freeze. This can leave us with chronic emotional and/or physical pain, feeling unwell, exhausted, anxious, depressed, reactive, and more. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), I offer a mind-body approach that helps individuals move out of fight, flight, or freeze responses. My work is rooted in the understanding that traumatic stress and childhood wounds are held in the nervous system, and it is through the body that we can heal and transform our past to become fully alive and well in the here and now.

Our problems are very reliable. They keep presenting themselves for our consideration. Your ability to be successful in therapy is closely tied to your willingness to stop and look around, take ownership, and choose a path forward. This requires creativity, effort, and courage. You employ your existing skills and strategies while learning new ones, ultimately moving each day towards living a life of integrity - a life in which your actions match your values. You stop running from problems and instead welcome their return, because these problems help you clarify what is truly important. The problem becomes the solution.

As a clinical art therapist, I believe in the power of healing through an integrative, holistic approach that addresses the mind, body, and the spirit. Every person has within them the innate ability to heal and transform their lives. Often, it requires a compassionate approach with therapeutic interventions that help an individual to discover that innate wisdom within. As a trauma informed therapist, using nonverbal modalities allows for deeper levels of access to what is unconscious or unprocessed within and stored in the bodies memory from our life experiences.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating. Even when we know it is important to get some support around the challenges of life, taking that step and reaching out is not easy. Congratulations for making the decision to ask for support. I hope you give yourself credit for being brave and taking a step toward feeling better. Everyone needs support sometimes, you are not alone.

Are you wondering what your life would be like if you were able to align your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions with your values? Are you willing to learn how to take committed action in the service of what you most care about? Would you find it helpful to learn specific practices to embrace life as it is rather than the way your conceptualizing mind tells you it must be?

Clients often tell me, they were told: there is nothing more that can be done...for their poor gait, pain levels, anxiety and depression even mood swings. Somatic education and therapy is another option. Judy will guide you to greater self awareness so you can notice your unconscious holding patterns and let them go. Once helpful, these old patterns may be holding you back. The use of gentle movement and touch is freeing and releases the deep seated and often unconscious patterns of pain and trauma. Judy will help you find a way around it...with gentleness and fun.

We are each gifted... We are each wounded... Nobody escapes the extraordinary challenges of being human. What is it that is precious about my clients? How can we heal and release our unique gifts into this world? It is my calling to support your life's imperative to transform injuries, and become fully energized to all that life has to offer within which lies the revelation of your most empowered Self. I've raised three children in the wilds of Maine and trekked in remote cultures and wildernesses around the world; yet it is within us that lies the greatest wilderness, its adversities, traumas, challenges, and wonders to behold.

My approach to working with patients is called Mind-Body Integrative Psychotherapy. Mind-Body Integrative psychotherapy is an approach to healing ones emotional, spiritual and physical well being in the here and now while also giving the patient tools that create long-lasting positive changes. My approach blends conventional psychotherapeutic strategies, including the recommendation of medications when deemed necessary, with evidence-based, natural, less invasive therapies (e.g. dietary change, meditation, acupuncture, yoga, herbal medicine and therapeutic massage).

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
