This relationship is a priority to instill safety and trust.
I have worked in this field for over 15 years, and I grow to love my role more and more as I support others in their journey toward being the best version of themselves. Many people who are hurting and wish for guidance seek out what they believe are the best techniques in therapy. Throughout my time working in the field, I have come to realize that the therapeutic relationship is just as important - if not more so.

People seeking the help of a therapist often feel alone, defeated, and even ashamed. Because of these typical feelings I believe it is extremely important for the therapist to foster feelings of hope and acceptance as a foundation for the work to follow. To achieve this I embrace the humanistic principle of Unconditional Positive Regard working with clients within a non-judgmental cooperative alliance. My office is located in a convenient, rural, residential setting that many of my clients have described as therapeutic. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship problems, PTSD, and loss of meaning in their lives.

I provide treatment for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, adjustment and transition issues, relationship concerns, substance abuse disorders and post-traumatic stress.
Whatever brings someone to therapy, it generally includes some form of pain, dissatisfaction, or discomfort, and a disconnect between what is happening their life and what they want. Our work together will help to shed light on why you are struggling, and support you as you make changes, drawing on your strengths to find an approach that is more effective and aligned with how you want your life to be. I believe that effective therapy starts with a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental emotional space where clients can feel heard and understood and my work is grounded in developing a strong therapeutic relationship .

I work with adult individuals and with couples of all ages and stages of relationships. Perhaps a recent event in your life has produced anxiety or sadness or a rupture in a relationship . Or perhaps you have a nagging sense that life could be better, that something is holding you back, or you are confused about some of your feelings and longings. Or maybe you have trauma which has lurked in the background for a long time and you are wondering if it would help to look into it but you are a bit hesitant. These are all areas we can work on together.

There are as many different kinds of struggles as there are people. That said, counseling can be a place to sort out confusion, find fresh perspectives, and re-energize yourself to tackle the ups and downs of your life and feel good about your actions. It's something we all can benefit from at different points in our lives. I work with teenagers, adults, and elders. My work includes couples counseling , individual counseling, and family counseling, as well as work focused on employment issues and men's issues.

There are many powerful tools available to help individuals, couples , and families achieve meaningful, positive change in their lives. As a psychologist in clinical practice for over 25 years, I am vitally engaged in the process of integrating a broad range of therapeutic practices to meet the unique needs of each client. Effective psychotherapy can be of great assistance in negotiating the complexities of modern human existence. Engaging mind, heart, and intuition, it is a process that may become an "adventure of the Soul" imparting profound benefit beyond the alleviation of symptoms.

I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy and group therapy.
I specialize in helping men who struggle with isolation, feelings of anxiety and depression, blocks to intimacy, addiction to pornography, lack of male friends, a feeling of being lost or without a deep sense of purpose, or feeling numb and disconnected from life. As men, we are socialized to keep everything to ourselves, which makes it hard for us to admit when we're lonely and hurting and in need of support. Many of us grew up with fathers that were either absent, abusive, or detached from us emotionally, leaving us without a respectable model of masculinity to inspire us. This leaves us without much direction in life.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
