I begin with what you see as the reason you are seeking help, such as depression, anxiety, low self esteem, stress, abuse, work, relationship issues, addictions, etc. From that starting point I help you deepen your understanding of yourself and your situation, make sense of what's going on, find good strategies and solutions. Addictions, including compulsive gambling, is my specialty but I have experience in a general practice working with a wide range of issues. I'm known as loving my work, being compassionate, empathic, pragmatic, energetic and focusing on people's strengths while helping them with their challenges.

Often our bodies and minds hold the wisdom we are needing. Being and moving in natural spaces inherently helps us tune into ourselves as individuals and ourselves as part of a web of life. When is the last time you were able to slow down and just be? My office setting is a garden with some woods for rambling when more movement is needed. Together we work with plants, animals, and natural elements to explore your needs, goals, fears, desires, strengths, and skills and how best to weave them into the web of your life. In winter, we stay cozy with a hoophouse and heated seats.

I offer individual counseling to adults and adolescents ages 16 and over. My approach is a combination of cognitive-behavioral (actively working on changing ones thoughts and behaviors) and therapeutic mindfulness (learning to experience difficulties with awareness and self-compassion rather than judgment and avoidance). I place a strong emphasis on building communication and coping skills that can be used again and again in challenging situations. I have experience treating anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, self-harming behaviors, and counseling around life transitions and family concerns.

At one point or another we can all benefit from what therapy has to offer. I commit to creating a compassionate space for you to break from your daily routine and shed the layers no longer serving you. I believe counseling to be a collaborative journey towards growth, adaptation, and healing.

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in healing - I find myself in strong connection with those navigating attachment trauma and the ways it can impact identity exploration, relational dynamics, self-efficacy, and the ability to cope with the challenges of daily life. This commonly manifests in mood disorders like depression and anxiety, personality disorders, neurodivergence, and post-traumatic stress. My intention is to support self-awareness, the development of more helpful coping strategies and the creation of a life that aligns with your personal values.

My clinical focus is on life transitions, anxiety, experiences of grief and loss, trauma, and well as stress management. I individualized the work done in counseling to fit each person. Analytical Psychology offers help in dealing with psychological difficulties, encourages and supports the development of the personality. Each person is seen as a unique individual. Truly effective help is found not in pat answers, or blanket treatment plans. Here the analyst acts as a guide or interpreter. She helps the client understand and utilize the resources found in unexpected places. Propelled by instinct or longing, our natural state is one of health and balance. C. G. Jung, the original founder of analytical psychology, said our neurosis, (symptom or illness) arises out of living a life too small for our soul.

You’re the person everyone relies on - capable, composed, and holding everything together - while privately carrying anxiety, overwhelm, and the weight of past trauma. Maybe you’re constantly bracing for the next crisis, stuck in overthinking or people-pleasing, or swinging between hyper-functioning and shutting down. You want relief and clarity, and you want to feel safe in your own mind and body again, but you’re unsure how to get there.

I am a seasoned clinician who has worked with adults, couples and families for over 30 years. Increased awareness leads to increased options. Often the work of therapy is about making or repairing connections--interpersonal, internal or perhaps even spiritual. I provide individual adult psychodynamic psychotherapy; couples counseling: marital, pre and post divorce. I use a multi modal approach often including assessment and treatment from a family systems perspective and a psychodynamic perspective. I reserve a portion of my practice to provide a safe and intriguing space for children to express themselves and to be understood by adults. Facilitated parent-child sessions often help.

My hope is to bring awareness to your past and present experiences to facilitate a true healing in moving forward. It is possible to move through darkness into your light. I have an understanding of psychological and somatic/body patterning to help with trauma from abuse, acute events, relationship/attachment struggles, grief/loss, chronic pain, self-esteem/love, life transitions, and faith based/spiritual needs. Life events and experiences shape the way we see ourselves and how we live out each day. I believe a person can connect their mind, body, senses, heart and soul to return to inner balance and health. Everyone is welcomed

Are you someone who feels everything deeply but often keeps it all inside? Maybe you’re carrying the weight of relationship struggles, childhood trauma, or a pattern that keeps repeating no matter how much insight you gain. You might look “fine” on the outside, but inside, you're overwhelmed, exhausted, or wondering who you really are underneath all the roles and expectations. I work with individuals who tend to be highly sensitive, insightful, and attuned to others but often struggle to offer that same compassion to themselves that they offer to others.

What I know for sure is it can be hard to be human while it can also can be awe-inducing and wonderful. In my 26 years of practice I have come to find that what I enjoy the most in my work is supporting clients in sitting in this duality and finding peace in the presence of their lives. We can try so hard to run from our tough emotions in all kinds of adaptive human ways, but when we practice accepting them the deep healing can begin.

How can I find a therapist in Bowdoinham?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
