Anxiety
, Depression, Life Transition Adjustments.
Life can be overwhelming-leaving little time or energy for peaceful introspection. I use a warm acceptance and humor to help clients face challenging dilemmas. Without understanding the motivation behind our impulses, we can lose our way, sometimes getting stuck for years, and developing maladaptive emotional coping difficulties. I help people recognize and overcome their self-limiting belief systems, generating greater self knowledge, confidence and having the ability to tolerate the emotional strains of contemporary living. I have over 20 years of work experience in the trauma field- working with both survivors and perpetrators of abuse.

Whether you are transitioning into retirement, exploring your gender identity, or looking to develop techniques to manage your
anxiety
, allow me to come along with you on your journey towards change- and ultimately- self acceptance.
My approach to therapy is eclectic- with an effort to combine aspects of DBT, Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing with yoga, art, and breathwork as they best serve you in your environment. I believe in therapy as a dual process- where you as the client are the expert in your own lived experience- and I serve to help guide you through the steps of change. Together we can identify goals, thought patterns, or behaviors that are not serving you, and engage in the development of coping mechanisms and skills that you can utilize when feeling anxious, dysregulated, or triggered.

Depression, generalized
anxiety
, social phobias, grief & life transitions are a few of my specialities.
I don't solve problems. What I do is work with clients and teach you how to problem solve!! And then we practice that skill together. No matter the age of my client nor the reason that brings them to my office, I want to be clear that this is a team approach. That having a neutral party to speak with; someone who will not judge but someone with whom you can share your concerns and issues can make all of the difference in the world in bringing about the changes that you desire.

Are you struggling with
anxiety
, depression and confusion and are hoping for a better tomorrow? Life happens leaving us overwhelmed, confused and alone. When this occurs we look to others for help and at times we seek out an unbiased professional to help in the healing process. I have worked in many places throughout the United States and have treated many people regardless of age who are suffering because of difficult and or traumatic life experience. I have worked with military veterans, adolescents, professionals and individuals who have been severely traumatized and marginalized.

I'm Skilled at Helping With
Anxiety
/worry, depression, trauma, navigating transitions and change, parent and child interaction, parent and adolescent communication and/or conflict, partner and familial relationship issues, adjustment issues in children, self esteem and identity issues in adolescents.
We are human. I believe we all encounter circumstances--internal, external and relational--in which we feel stuck, overwhelmed, helpless or unsure of how to move forward. As a therapist, I am committed to helping individual adults, children and youth, couples and families identify patterns of thoughts, behavior and interactions that inhibit fulfillment. I work together with people to identify goals and to evaluate our work in therapy. Ideally, therapy is a temporary commitment, a place to bolster internal resources and identify more effective tools and ways of interacting and coping.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
