I am a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My primary orientation is psychodynamic, which means that I work with clients to look at current symptoms and relationship problems as manifestations of patterns - often outside of our awareness - that we learn in childhood. Often this learning leads us to suppress important parts of ourselves and our experiences, which in turn leads to suffering. I believe that exploring these patterns and slowly acquainting ourselves with disowned feelings and conflicts is critical for lasting symptom change.

No matter who and where we are in our lives, it seems we all "have our stuff." And that's exactly what has drawn me to my life work. To sit with a couple, an individual experiencing grief/loss, or even a group (life and/or work-related) and to offer the simple grace and permission to be human. Clients, colleagues, and friends have often expressed that my calming and authentic yet professional communication style naturally provides the necessary tools to build trusting and work-ready relationships. I hold a great deal of respect for my clients and am honored to be a catalyst in promoting their growth and self-empowerment.

For those living with challenges like provider burnout, anxiety, depression, professional identity, addictions, effects of trauma, abuse, or low self esteem; online teletherapy can help with the added benefit of engaging with your therapist at a time and place that is not only convenient, but private. There is decades of research that demonstrates therapy can help, and quickly. Please email me and let me answer any other questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you. My focus is on people who have been affected by someone's substance use disorder. Addiction is a family disease. You didn't cause the substance use, you can't control it and you can't cure it. You can learn to find your empowerment by defining your personal boundaries and your personal power. You can learn how to use self care in a crisis and how to cope with your loved one without losing yourself. Self care is essential for your well being. I have worked in the field of Substance Use Disorder for 12 years in many capacities. Please feel free to call and see if I can help you.

This has been a time of great change for all of us. So to make life just a little easier, I've lowered fees to make therapy accessible to everyone, added TeleHealth for those impacted by COVID and/or who don't have a counselor nearby. For in-person visits, I even have a "therapy puppy" who is in training as a therapy dog. The benefits of therapy animals is well documented and our therapy dogs have been a great success with clients. I'm also a Maine and Florida licensed counselor with over 20 years of experience, specializing in depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma. My goal in therapy is to guide you to find the inner peace that you so desire and are searching for. I believe that each person has the answer within them and my role is to help guide that process. We all have times when we need to prioritize our emotional well being and have a safe, nonjudgemental space to process. By developing a caring, empathic, and trusting relationship with my clients, it becomes possible for the individual to make connections, deepen his/her awareness and gain clarity about relationships, problems and personal patterns. It is through this process that growth and change can be made.

Looks like you are therapist shopping, which is a big step. Chances are, this means the support systems you have and the ways of coping that you normally use are not enough right now. Perhaps you have noticed changes in how you sleep, your appetite, mood, and how you engage with your world. A variety of paths lead people to struggle and we all have times in our lives when we need a little more or a little different support. Finding a therapist who is a good fit for you can be a helpful piece in receiving that support. Root & Rise has 2 therapists on staff, Dr. Butler Hepler and Reva Kominsky, MSW. Perhaps one of us can help.

Hello and welcome! My goal as a therapist is to help individuals achieve overall health and wellness. I serve clients with eating disorders, addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety, and identity and relationship issues. I believe change is possible, but I also know it can be very difficult and discouraging. I will help you identify and use your strengths to make lasting changes in your life. I believe that understanding and awareness of oneself is the first step in the change process. My goal is to help clients understand why they have not sustained changes in the past and what they can do differently in the future.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
