This space is yours for reflection, processing, and making movement at your own pace. My role is to provide tools or strategies that partner with you as you make changes in your life to meet your own goals. Some reasons people seek counseling may include reducing symptoms of a mental health diagnosis, strengthening family relationships, finding balance between the many life responsibilities, improving social relationships/communication/boundary setting, exploring your identity, navigating impact of family addiction/mental health of a loved one, having a space to talk about the challenges of parenting, and many more.

We all experience times in life that feel more difficult than others. These challenges may stem from past trauma, relationship struggles, the loss of a loved one, health concerns, job changes, school pressures, or even causes that are not immediately clear. My role is to help you build the personal skills and supportive connections you need to navigate these challenges and move forward with greater resilience.

I have been in the psychotherapy field for over 25 years working with people who stuggle with addictions, infertility, adoption, depression and anxiety.
I work psychodynamically, that is I facilitate the clients process in gaining insight into his/her behaviors, thoughts and feeling. I am however an active participant in the process, dealing with the here and now. I work relationally and in a humanistic way, valuing the client's struggle and process without judgement.

My past 32 years' experience includes domestic and international adoption, foster care and post- adoption services and support, and mental health counseling with adolescents and adults.
I believe that human growth occurs in a relational context, and we all have the ability to envision a better life and create our own solutions. To me, counseling is a collaborative process in which clients and I join to discover possibilities, set achievable goals, and follow the chosen path together. I provide a safe space for clients to explore their challenges, gain insight into underlying needs, consider effective ways to meet those needs, and acquire whatever tools they need to strengthen important relationships.

You’re the one who holds everything together—but inside, you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in patterns that don’t feel like they started with you. I help millennials make sense of the family dynamics, unspoken expectations, and money wounds that shaped them—so they can finally break the cycles that no longer serve them and feel more grounded, confident, and in control of their lives.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
