Seeking to improve our relationship with ourselves and others can feel uncertain and overwhelming. As a therapist, I strive to remove barriers by providing an open, trusting, and nonjudgmental space where self-acceptance and healing can be fostered for individuals and partnerships. Difficulties such as life transitions, relationship challenges, trauma, or unexpected events can leave us feeling disconnected and isolated. Through the collaborative experience of therapy, couples, polycules, or triads can find renewed, deeper bonds and individuals can untangle the past, process the current, and grow through supportive change.

I am passionate about working with professionals who feel they are "not good enough" or who worry about living up to others' expectations. We can work together to help you learn to love yourself for who you are and not what you accomplish. My clients are working on healing from emotional trauma, learning to understand their feelings and how to handle them, and improving relationship skills. After working with me, my clients are better able to express their feelings and needs in ways that help them grow closer to the people important to them.

I believe in the innate goodness of people. Problems arise when we lack the ability to communicate what's really going on within or can't get past defenses to understand another person's feelings or experiences. Most people haven't been taught the skills to be safe listeners and so we grow up believing that others don't have capacity to understand us. I love bringing people closer by teaching them to cross the bridge into the world of others without losing themselves. I teach emotional safety by demonstrating emotional safety and believe breakdowns create opportunities for new breakthroughs.

I am a licensed Professional Counselor who looks forward to working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, or who have a history of trauma. I have over 18 years of experience working with adolescents, parents, and families, and enjoy partnering with people on their path to change and healing. My approach to therapy is one of partnership and coaching. In my experience, most people fall into one of two categories: they either lack the motivation to change or the skills to change.

Do you ever feel like an imposter or struggle with feelings of inadequacy? Perhaps you lean towards perfectionism and feel like nothing you ever do is quite enough. Do your reactions to your loved ones sometimes puzzle you? Or is it hard for you to set boundaries or take care of your needs? Many people with childhood trauma grapple with these difficulties and more. It may be hard for you to feel connected with others or to shake off feelings of loneliness. Sometimes you might even feel like it's hard to enjoy the good things in your life.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards empowerment, transformation and healing. The courage it takes to seek out a therapist should not be discounted or minimized; starting therapy can be scary. My approach to therapy is not a one-size-fits-all attitude/method. Using a holistic view, I take the time to learn about you, your values, and your goals for treatment. This allows me to collaborate with you and create a treatment experience that will be meaningful, healing, and rewarding and to support you on your journey of self-discovery and healing.

I have been in the helping field for over thirty years. I have experience in clinical practice as well as being a university professor. My belief is that life is not a straight line nor sequential. However, with the right support, you can find solutions and contentment. I will facilitate and empower you on your journey. While I firmly believe in discussing the origin of the issues, I am also practical and do believe in solutions. As such, together we implement tools while continuing to explore the issues deeper. Finally, the "fit" between the therapist and client is clinically crucial. I am happy to meet for a consultation.

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice. I treat depression and anxiety, long standing problems, relation/couples, Gay/Lesbian, crisis intervention, coping w/chronic or terminal health concerns, mourning and grieving. I was a Director of Social Work in a psychiatric hospital. I left that position because I discovered my greatest interest was working with clients. I provide a relaxed environment where people can examine and solve problems, develop greater insight, and enhance coping skills in a non judgmental setting.

I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in helping children, adolescents, and their families. I have extensive experience working with preschoolers, school-aged children, and adolescents with social, emotional, behavioral, and educational challenges. My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, social difficulties, learning disorders, divorce, and loss. Kids are sometimes sad when they sit by themselves at lunch. Others may be frustrated when they are not picked for games. Children may not have the social language skills, impulse control, social judgment, and/or abilities to develop and maintain friendships. I help children and adolescents develop these skills in individual and group therapy.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
