My experience includes working with clients dealing with
anxiety
, depression, relationship issues, self esteem, stress, troublesome patterns, trauma, life transitions, maternal issues, and family conflicts.
There are times when we all require additional support; someone to accompany you in a time of difficulty or just to improve your sense of well-being. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey between therapist and client, exploring the client's inner world, developing insight, and simply deepening self-understanding using a compassionate and strength-based approach.

Therapy can be an intimidating process. How often have you pushed your mental health aside because life grew hectic; were told to “practice self-care” but aren’t sure what that entails; or been told to “just get over something” and you’re left feeling lost or overwhelmed? Being a human is challenging! We’re filled with complicated emotions that derive from our lived experiences, environment, family dynamics, personality, and genetics. My goal is to help you sort some of that out to relieve depression,
anxiety
, and interpersonal conflict.

Through a genuine, empathetic, energizing, and collaborative style, I help those struggling with
anxiety
, stress, childhood trauma, sexual abuse, and relational conflict.
It takes a great deal of strength and courage to try therapy. Turning to someone for help can be challenging and vulnerable so my job is to make this process as comfortable as possible. Are you feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by
anxiety

My holistic approach to therapy works with you to access your inner strengths and empowers you to live more fully, and enjoy what's right in front of you. I can help you expand the way you think, and see through a new brighter lens. I work with you to remove shame and judgement and embrace life's challenges.

You've decided to try therapy. Good for you! It takes courage and insight to recognize when you need help and to ask for it. How do you choose among the many therapists? Consider making a list of your preferences: gender, age, experience, location, cost. If you have insurance, it makes sense to use an in-network provider but you may also have out of network benefits which a call to your insurance company will clarify. To find a good fit, consider talking with 2-3 therapists about why you are seeking treatment and ask how they could help. Assess your comfort level with each and then make a choice. Trust your gut!

There are times in life when it is difficult to believe that we will ever reach our dreams, hopes, goals, or have the future for which we had hoped. We may be feeling stuck, lonely, and unable to develop or access our wisdom and strengths. Too often, challenging life situations or decisions made in the past tend to have a lasting effect on our lives. I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow, change and heal our relationships with ourselves, our significant others, and those around us.

Are your emotions and moods causing you problems? Perhaps your feelings seem too strong and overwhelming. Or perhaps you lack emotions and you feel empty inside. Maybe you do not know what you are feeling or your emotions confuse you. When you get anxious, bored or stressed do you turn to foods, alcohol, drugs or harmful activities to feel better? Do you lack a sense of meaning or excitement for life? Are you tired of feeling and reacting to the world in the same old ways that just don't seem to be working anymore?

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
