As a licensed clinical psychologist I enjoy helping individuals, couples, and families from myriad backgrounds see their strengths and overcome their challenges in order to achieve the highest level of functioning possible. I particularly enjoy challenges and have shared success with clients and families in situations and coping with problems which had seemed insurmountable or had lasted for many years. Using an integrated approach, I make sure that whatever I do is in the best interest of the client and is effective, adaptable, and most of all realistic with respect to where the client is and their goals in treatment.

People are saddled with a matrix of problematic anger issues masquerading as stress.
I approach most counseling issues from a perspective that most people are doing the best they can with what they believe and perceive. Hence, the context for most of our pain as human beings and our well being is found within the meanings we code our experiences with and the relationship spheres we foster. Therefore, above all the various strategies I may find the need to employ on behalf of my client, the most impactful of all of these is that of using the compassionate connection we build with each other as being a powerful catalyst to generate the flow of new possibility.

It is magical thinking to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome. Often this is what we do in our relationships with partners, children, family, friends, and ourselves. Therapy is like pushing a pause button on what isn’t working well–a pause to examine the thought patterns and behaviors that may be keeping us from a more satisfying life. Therapy is a unique way to explore a kinder way of viewing yourself and build on that to improve your relationships. This means I meet you where you are and we collaboratively map a path forward.

It is from this core relationship that a child, adolescent or young adult with self-esteem, anxiety, anger management, or other issues, can begin to feel comfortable and trust the process of therapy.
I am trained in a psychodynamic and relational approach that includes the use of play therapy, art, music, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. I have spent the last 27 years working clinically with children and adolescents in school settings in Baltimore City, Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. I currently combine my work as a school counselor in a special education facility with private practice.

Given the many challenges that can lead to divorce (money problems, adultery, differences in raising children, etc.) the wisest thing couples can do is to seek Christian counseling before they say "I do." No matter how solid a couple’s relationship may be, problems and differences will inescapably arise, therefore, pre-marital counseling really operates like the best security a couple could ever purchase. We provide counseling that can benefit couples, marriages, individuals struggling with personal issues, and families experiencing difficulties.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
