My clients have included pre-teens, adolescents, young adults and adults. I have worked with people who come into therapy for many different reasons, including the experience of trauma, anxiety, depression, treatment resistant depression, and bipolar disorder. Developmental struggles including
adolescent
stressors related to academia and achievement, and young adults struggling to achieve independence, are areas of particular interest to me.

No matter how hard we try, sometimes we feel stuck dwelling on thoughts and feelings that we know hinder us from being able to move forward in our lives. I believe that therapy is a space for those that feel stuck to not only develop health coping skills, but also assess the impact that their life experiences might've had on their worldview and behaviors. I want to hold space for you to explore, unlearn and grow at a pace that is right for you.

It is from this core relationship that a child,
adolescent
or young adult with self-esteem, anxiety, anger management, or other issues, can begin to feel comfortable and trust the process of therapy.
I am trained in a psychodynamic and relational approach that includes the use of play therapy, art, music, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. I have spent the last 20 years working clinically with children and adolescents in school settings in Baltimore City, Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. I currently combine my work as a school counselor in a special education facility with private practice.

This may involve concerns about an underachieving or acting-out
teen
, a young adult child experiencing a "failure to launch", or a divorced person struggling to co-parent with and ex-spouse.
In my practice, I work with a diverse clientele: children, adolescents and adults from all backgrounds. My approach is practical and conversational as we explore together the stressors of daily living, relationship concerns, parenting issues, and in some instances, severe psychiatric disorders. Often, clients seek short-term interventions, though for some difficulties therapy continues for an extended period. I allow my clients to set the agenda for our work together and decide what sort of help is needed.

From child or

therapy to couples or group therapy, we offer the services that will help you and your loved ones lives improve dramatically.
How does anyone choose a therapist? The variety of options are daunting, and while many, many people have been to or go to a therapist, it is not a topic easily discussed, so it can be hard to find a recommendation. Many people resort to picking the person whose face looked nice, or went to a school they recognize, or work in a convenient location or accept their insurance. Often these techniques are sufficient, but when they are not it is a great loss, as it takes so much courage to look for a therapist in the first place.

Every day is filled with parenting battles that leave you exhausted and guilt-ridden, having lost your temper too many times. You ache for a more peaceful home and a loving relationship with your child or
teen
, but you don’t know how to get there. General advice and tips sound good on paper but they are not working with your child, and you don’t know why. Your energy and resilience are taking a serious hit. Worst of all, you are afraid that your child will be emotionally harmed by all the turmoil that goes on from day to day.

While the treatment needs for each adult,
adolescent
or child may be different, the goal is the same; that is, to understand better the meaning of one's thoughts, feelings and behaviors and through understanding, a chance for more lasting happiness and satisfaction in work, school, friendships and intimate relationships.
I have been in practice for over 20 years, working with adults, children and adolescents in psychodynamic therapy and psychoanalysis. The frequency and duration of each treatment depends on the unique needs of every person; for example, a college student may be seeking short-term therapy to deal with the transition from home to school or an adult may be seeking longer term treatment to understand a pattern of failed relationships. Children are often referred by family members or school counselors, who provide valuable background information to help determine the best treatment. Ongoing collaboration with parents and professionals is essential.

As people gain deeper understanding of themselves and their behaviors , they are often able to make changes to improve their self esteem, strengthen their relationships, cope with life's ups and downs, and achieve deeper satisfaction in their lives.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
