Wondering whether alcohol/
substance
use is gaining control of you or a loved one's life? Do you worry about a teenage son or daughter using drugs/alcohol or demonstrating oppositional and hard to handle behaviors? Early intervention for these challenges often leads to greater chance of success.
Thank you for looking at my ad and considering the process of psychotherapy/counseling for your life. Many of my new clients have spoken about the anxiety they experienced when they decided to seek additional support through a therapist. I have come to recognize that this anxiety mostly comes from each client really hoping they can find the right match for themselves. Hopefully this brief biography will facilitate your decision about whether we could match up nicely. Please review my website which will provide you with a greater understanding of my experiences.

Hello, my name is Mitchell Cohen. I am aware that counseling can feel like an intimidating process; yet, I just want you to know how courageous it is that you've already taken the first step: asking for help. I recognize how extremely valuable it is to connect with the right professional. When I work with people, I see them as partners in their care. Old habits of thinking and reacting to situations in life can seem difficult to overcome. Together we discover what seems to be the source of the problems, explore what has worked surviving these challenges, and build on your strengths. I

"Fear lives in the head. And courage lives in the heart. The job is to get from one to the other" - Louis Penny. It is inevitable that we will be wounded during the journey of life. Many of those wounds generally heal on their own. However some wounds cut deeper. They are unable to heal themselves and leave scars causing broken relationships, anxiety,
addiction
, insecurity, fear, and pain. Facing these wounds can be frightening and overwhelming, especially when facing them alone. Together we find the courage and strength to face and heal these wounds.

Over the course of my career I have become increasingly aware of a demand in the community for Sex Therapy, and have decided to recalibrate my practice accordingly. I am engaged in a comprehensive training program facilitated by the Sexual Health Alliance on my path to becoming an AASECT-certified Sex Therapist. My background in
substance
abuse and trauma has largely informed this decision. I continue to serve individuals seeking to manage compulsive behaviors, AD(H)D, anxiety disorders, and mood symptoms through this transition to a sex-centered practice.

The truth about recovery is that it's a process. Just like life itself. It's forever changing and moving forward. Healing never has to stop. There is always more we can recover and grow from, becoming more whole along the way. Recovery is a form of discovery. Recovering parts of ourselves that had been cut off means they are finally revealed to us, and we discover something new about ourselves. We discover that we are greater than we were before. More aware of our inner strength and resources, we become empowered. I hope that you discover true healing and what recovery can be: Internal peace and serenity can happen.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
