You built your career with passion, energy, and grit. But it’s a lonely road. You feel the crushing weight of responsibility; people are depending on you. Your leadership, your staff, your board. Your spouse, your kids. Everyone needs something from you, and you have only so much to give. At work, you rally all of your psychological strength to be disciplined, efficient, and productive. And when you come home, it’s time to switch modes entirely. You want to be present. You want to be there for the soccer games and piano recitals without solving work problems in your head. Somehow, you have to figure out how to make it all work.

As difficult as life can be, it is harder when you don't have a safe space to share how you truly feel without being judged or have your words used against you. Believing that you are always the problem, have to fix everyone's problems and your own, and lack awareness about how to change yourself or your life trajectory can leave you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Wanting your own space to talk without being interrupted and to be seen for who are and not just what you do or don't do is possible if you are willing to ask for help. I am here to provide that safe, nonjudgemental space for you.

I’m a dad of two kids and former D1 college athlete. I’m also a licensed psychologist and sport psychologist. Most of the people I work with have a sense of "stuckness" or disconnection in their lives. Disconnection within themselves. Disconnection in relationships, identities, or roles. Outwardly, it might show up as irritability, anxiety, depression, conflict, grief, trauma, struggling as an athlete/coach/leader...but the common thread is often a deep, hard-to-describe, feeling of disconnect. Of misalignment. My work is all about mending disconnection. I prioritize honesty, compassion, humor, curiosity, and courage in this work.

Wouldn't it be great if your therapist didn't just listen to you, but helped YOU listen to yourself? You know, that part if yourself that gets lost among all your responsibilities and commitments and social media and stress and all the things you tell yourself...all that stuff that makes you feel fragmented and overwhelmed. I excel at helping people discover themselves amidst the noise of life. Understanding yourself is the key to getting "unstuck" and moving towards healing, success, and growth.

"Life is what happens to us while we're busy making other plans (Allen Saunders)." Depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, loneliness, life changes, indecision, performance issues, impulsivity . . . we all struggle with something; it's part of being human. And at times, it's more than we can manage on our own. Psychotherapy can help. My passion is to collaborate with you to discover what is troubling you, to support you in realizing the life you envision, and begin functioning at the highest level possible, both personally and professionally.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
