suffering from harm and violent OCD , contamination OCD , Just right/perfectionism OCD , relationship OCD , religious/scrupulosity OCD , symmetry OCD , sexual orientation OCD , existential OCD , sensimotor OCD , pedophilia OCD , suicidal OCD , or health anxiety, let’s work together as a team to quit giving your intrusive thoughts meaning and live a happier life.
Are you consumed with disturbing automatic thoughts, and spending hours chasing, analyzing, reviewing, and giving meaning to the intrusive thoughts? As someone that’s been in your shoes, there is hope and recovery to overcome OCD . I will teach you how to change your relationship with anxiety by looking it in the face and walking towards it instead of walking away. It is easy to stay trapped and believe the false messages that your OCD feeds you. I will teach you how to rewire your brain into no longer believing those false threats that your brain is torturing you with. My treatment approach teaches you how to stop competing

A specific type of CBT, know as Exposure/Response-Prevention, is the treatment of choice for OCD .
Although by orientation I'm a cognitive-behavioral therapist--that is, I focus on how thoughts and actions affect how we feel and respond to situations--I don't follow a cookbook approach to treatment. Each individual brings a unique set of problems to therapy, and I start with a thorough evaluation to assess your needs and develop a collaborative treatment plan that is personal yet based on current research. This type of therapy is focused more on the present than the past and on developing coping skills to help you deal with the problems that are currently troubling you.

With an ally, you would feel confident taking back your life by working to stop the cycle of anxiety that is Obsessive -Compulsive Disorder.
As someone that struggles with unwanted or intrusive thoughts, feelings, sensations, or urges, you often find yourself spinning in circles. You are constantly hounded by doubt and spend most of your time just trying to keep your head above water. You know that you are being illogical, but just can't seem to shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen. It can be scary to reach out for help. You may worry that you will be judged if you tell anyone about the content of your thoughts, so you suffer in silence. So often it seems that you have to carry this burden alone.

In much of my work, I use cognitive and exposure-based therapies to help people with anxiety and OCD , including Inference-based CBT, DBT and ERP.
It's normal to be going through a hard time. But if you haven’t yet discovered what helps you manage your unique stressors, relationships, and boundaries, then life likely feels so much harder than it needs to. If you're feeling stuck, having an outside perspective can help you see different paths through a difficult terrain. Whether your troubles stem from internal or external issues, I know that by creating a warm and reflective space where we explore your worries, challenges, and motivations, you can find places of relief and even joy.

Additional specialized training in trichotillomania, body repetitive behaviors, skin picking and other obsessive body behaviors.
Congratulations for taking the first step in trying to find a therapist. This is not an easy step. Now to finding the right fit. If you want concrete strategies and to learn ways to move forward my clinic is a way to go. We specialize in outcomes based (researched) treatment. I have been a DBT therapist for over 10 years and ERP for over 5 years. That means that if you have a hard time with information you don't like (distress tolerance), managing your emotions (emotional regulation), high intensity relationships (interpersonal effectiveness) and/or obsessive thoughts - we have several kinds of treatments that work.

Your anxiety or OCD may show up in different ways: panic attacks, repetitive doubts, overthinking, indecision, compulsions, or avoidance of things you wish you could do. A cycle is born when these symptoms trigger more anxiety and distress. It can be exhausting, and these problems can significantly affect your quality of life and every day choices. Trying to get rid of, avoid, or change anxiety or OCD with breathing exercises, journaling, or "analyzing the past" can paradoxically perpetuate or exacerbate your suffering.

My areas of expertise are: Anxiety Disorders (Specific Phobia, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Generalized Anxiety, Illness Anxiety); Obsessive -Compulsive & Related Disorders ( OCD , Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding, Trichotillomania, Excoriation); and Tic Disorders (Tourette's, Motor/Vocal Tic Disorder).
“Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free.” - Jim Morrison. Anxiety, worry, and fear are natural responses to possible dangers and threats. It allows us to account for possible negative consequences and prepare ourselves accordingly. However, sometimes anxiety becomes an ever-present state. This can turn life into a nightmare, constantly perceiving danger at every corner. Thankfully, anxiety disorders, OCD , and related problems are highly treatable. I work with patients to help them overcome their fears and to bring back the joy in their lives.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
