However you come into my office, whether in crisis or stuck or angry and hurting, my commitment is to see and relate to you through the eyes of your potential. The very nature of relationships sets us up for conflict and disillusionment. We change as human beings, and so must our most intimate partnerships.
Marriage counseling
allows us to discover your strengths and successes and at the same time practice saying the things that are scary and uncomfortable. This is how we rekindle authenticity and trust and hope. You’ll find me to be both supportive and directive. I’m an active therapist who gets in it with you.

I do believe each person and family has unique resources to activate healing processes. Brief Therapy requires a highly collaborative approach between therapist and clients, and focuses on practical solutions and clear communication. Brief Therapy offers a maximum of 10 sessions but usually don't need that many to promote change in the problem that is presented. I work with individuals, couples and families with a variety of problems:
marital
conflict and affairs, depression and anxiety, children and adolescent problems, addiction, eating disorders, stress and work related problems. I also provide online-therapy services.

We are seeing our individuals and couples in tele-therapy through the COVID-19 crisis. As a "Top
Marriage
, Family and Sex Therapist" in Washingtonian Magazine in 2009 & 2012, my focus is on helping couples address their emotional and sexual ruptures in their relationships. If you feel far apart from or in conflict with your partner, therapy can help you to feel close again. As an couples relationship and certified sex therapist, with over 30 years of experience, couples learn to unravel their dance and a structured communications tool, which fosters listening, understanding and empathy. Sexual and emotional intimacy are restored.

We all experience ups and downs in our life. At times, though, our challenges become overwhelming and difficult to manage alone. Unresolved trauma may be affecting your overall mental and physical wellness. Or, you may be struggling with relationship and
marital
challenges; facing difficult life transitions; or dealing with symptoms related to anxiety or depression. It is important to know, however, that you are resilient and you have ability to heal, improve self-awareness, and make healthier and positive changes in your life.

My focus is on developing individually tailored ways to resolve, or manage, emotional and practical issues. I treat a variety of emotional issues, such as: anxiety, depression, despair. Frequently I treat couple or
marital
conflicts, incompatibility, infidality. Also, trauma, loss, indecision, ambivalent feelings. These may occur in relation to other people, or because of internal emotional struggles. I am particularly interested in patients developing relevant skills, such as conflict resolution, emotional regulation, assertiveness, boundary definition, sleep management, controlling one's thoughts, and other coping skills.

Given the many challenges that can lead to divorce (money problems, adultery, differences in raising children, etc.) the wisest thing couples can do is to seek Christian counseling before they say "I do." No matter how solid a couple’s relationship may be, problems and differences will inescapably arise, therefore, pre-
marital
counseling really operates like the best security a couple could ever purchase. We provide counseling that can benefit couples, marriages, individuals struggling with personal issues, and families experiencing difficulties.

Awarded a "Top
Marriage
and Sex Therapist" by Washingtonian Magazine in 2009 and 2012, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Imago Relationship Couples and Singles Therapist, Advanced Imago Clinician and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist.
There are times when things are not going as well as we'd like in our family, social or work relationships. You may feel alone, depressed, anxious, or have conflict or discomfort with those you care about. In my psychotherapy practice I help couples, individuals & families restore their sense of well being and connection. People learn how to be more present and intentional in accordance with what is most important to them. Partners learn to be safely available to each other through a dialogue process that teaches more effective listening, deeper understanding and empathy. In person and Telehealth meetings are offered.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
