Today you or your family are one step closer to a new you, where you feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. I see therapy (individual, couples and family) as a collaborative effort to figure out what obstacles are getting in the way of you and your family's happiness. We explore past and current behaviors, thoughts, relationships, and make connections between past and current experiences to help create change. We can work together to create a new experience that not only gets you through the storm to the calm, but can help you or your family thrive.

TLC is a multi-disciplinary group of psychologists, OT's, & SLP's. The core of our philosophy is the belief that our focus is on people, not on diagnoses/disabilities. With that in mind, we develop an individualized plan with every
child
, young adult, and family. We use a holistic, strengths-based approach to help individuals reduce symptoms of anxiety or depression, develop better self-esteem, learn new coping skills, improve social skills, and learn how to communicate more effectively. With these skills,
children
, teens, and adults can develop more positive relationships and improve their functioning at school or work.

I am an experienced therapist working with families for over 14 years. During this time I have worked with
children
, adolescents, adults and couples. My clients begin therapy as a means of overcoming obstacles or issues that prevent them from moving forward toward the individual goals they have set for themselves, whatever they may be. I help them assess and explore clear and realistic goals. I developed my early expertise working with adolescents with social, emotional, family or school issues. Since my early practice and training, I have gone on to also develop expertise in individual, couple and family counseling.

I do believe each person and family has unique resources to activate healing processes. Brief Therapy requires a highly collaborative approach between therapist and clients, and focuses on practical solutions and clear communication. Brief Therapy offers a maximum of 10 sessions but usually don't need that many to promote change in the problem that is presented. I work with individuals, couples and families with a variety of problems: marital conflict and affairs, depression and anxiety,
children
and adolescent problems, addiction, eating disorders, stress and work related problems. I also provide online-therapy services.

I have been working with
children
and adolescents for over 20 years, specializing in anxiety, ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and other areas of difficulty that
children
experience. There are many reasons a family seeks services for their
child
, and it is important for the family to feel that the therapist understands them, their
child
, and the needs of the family. I seek to gain this understanding, recognizing the fact that all
children
and families are unique, and that each individual has strengths to draw from to overcome the identified concerns.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
