In addition to talk therapy, I also practice Bibliotherapy, a range of different types of Art Therapy , Mindfulness, Guided Meditation, and Sensorium work.
The mere thought of therapy can be daunting, while in actuality most of us ask for advice from those around us everyday. What makes therapy different from asking a coworker, friend or relative for their advice, is my approach to therapy. I believe therapy is allowing you the space to work out issues, the space to feel free and learn about yourself in new ways. Therapy is looking at your thoughts and behavioral patterns for maximum effectiveness to your desired goals. My approach is best summed up in a quote by Benjamin Franklin, “There are three things extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one’s self.”

Are you having difficulty adjusting to the "new normal" of social distancing? While keeping us physically healthy, social distancing can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness. The stress of the current pandemic may also be worsening pre-existing problems such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. Children may also be misbehaving more and experiencing anxiety, and families quarantining together may be fighting more. If you are struggling financially due to the pandemic, we can help. As a non-profit therapy center, we accept a variety of insurance plans and offer sliding scales fees.

I went on to earn my Master's degree in Art Therapy from The George Washington University.
As a therapist, I bring ten years of experience in mental health treatment with people of all ages, specifically focused on depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and crisis intervention. Aside from talk-therapy, I am an art therapist and I'm happy to incorporate aspects of this technique into your session. Art therapy may not be for everyone, so do not be deterred! I believe strongly in the benefits of mindfulness and client-centered practice in my sessions. I also employ solution-focused techniques, which can give direction and gratification towards fulfilling your goals.

My training in clinical counseling and art therapy allows me to address and effectively treat complex mental, behavioral, and emotional issues using multiple modalities.
My work consists of a collaborative exploration of your needs and hopes in a supportive and culturally sensitive environment. Past and present life adversaries often shape the way we feel and interact. Examining our unhealthy patterns and incorperating our strengths in a trusting therapeutic relationship, can elicit experiences of personal growth, living a richer life and increasing our propensity for healthy and adaptive relationships. I work well with a range of psychological needs and concerns; anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, self - esteem, life changing events and trauma are some of the areas that I welcome in our exploration.

I aim to demystify the stereotypes of therapy through including elements of play, humor, art , and even food to guide you on your unique journey.
Seem like life is continually throwing you curve balls? Are you struggling with adjusting to transitions, feeling connected to yourself and others, or experiencing stress and anxiety trying to manage it all? You're not alone. When you're able to examine your experiences in a safe setting, it can give way to identifying patterns getting you stuck. My approach to therapy is to recognize you as an individual who is going to develop their own distinct path to healing. Every individual comes with a unique back story deserving to be heard, one which can provide the link to the challenges you are facing today.

I offer a combination of supportive talk therapy, art therapy , EMDR, and skill building depending upon your needs and goals.
Navigating the various emotional and social challenges of life can be frustrating and lonely. You may appear fine to the outside world, but underneath feel sensitive to home/school/work environments. Some people find they are using a lot of mental energy fighting off the insensitive words/actions of others, unspoken societal pressures, or general worries. Over time, this can wear down your self-worth and impact your relationships. It can make all the difference when you find a space where you feel understood and are free to express your genuine emotions.

I provide art therapy and counseling services.
Has a life transition affected your sense of self, self-esteem, and confidence? Do you feel overwhelmed by anxiety and stress? Are you struggling to manage ADHD symptoms as an adult? Is your mental health a barrier to your work as an artist/creative? Liminal spaces are periods of transition that occur between two experiences, places, states, or stages. They can feel challenging, painful, uncomfortable, and difficult to adjust to. They may cause you to feel anxious, stressed, stuck, and unsure how to move forward. Liminal spaces are opportunities to re-evaluate, redefine, creatively problem solve, and transform.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
