Do you wish to be happy again, and get back control of your life? Has your self esteem plummeted so that daily functioning has become difficult? Has anxiety, depression and anger taken control of you and won't let you function in peace? My ideal adult client is the multitasking adult, often juggling multiple tasks but are unable to cope with their own anger , anxiety, sadness, or stress which seem to be controlling their lives. My ideal adolescent client is one who is dealing with impulsivity, anger , anxiety, peer relations, self esteem issues or are just too depressed to pay attention to their important last years of school.

(I am not currently accepting new clients into my practice.) I'm very comfortable working with adolescents and have been able to provide them with a safe, supportive and non-judgmental setting in which to explore their conflicts around family, school, and relationships as well as to consider their hopes and anxieties about the future. Typically, my clients enter therapy to work on mood and relationship issues, school/work performance problems (including motivation), and anger issues. I also have a great deal of experience working with adults in individual, family, and couples' therapy, and I offer parenting guidance.

I specialize in the areas of chronic pain, cultural adjustment, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, anger management and LGBTQ issues.

Are you always anxious, angry or depressed? Feel distant from your true self? Therapy can help you to break through the pain to be where you want to be. Warm, supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic exploration can help you to reconnect with or discover the person outside the pain, who is not just a medical diagnosis, an adult child of an alcoholic, your profession, an angry/depressed/anxious person but the real you and your full potential.

My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, personal growth, stress management, women's issues, codependency, self-esteem, trauma-related symptoms, anger management , parenting, family conflict, behavioral issues in children, relationship and school issues.
My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that who you are makes sense. Even when your emotions, behaviors, or relationships are extremely different than what you want them to be, I believe that our feelings carry wisdom, our behaviors serve a function, and our current situation becomes clear in the context of our whole story. With this stance of curiosity and acceptance, I can help you understand the parts of your life that are causing distress and move toward the life you want to be living. I am an ideal fit for clients who want to make a change in their behavior while understanding the way those behaviors have functioned.

My practice focuses on supporting clients with relationship upheavals; mood disorders; anger & stress management; emotional self- regulation; trauma; chronic pain, medical illness & physical injury; grief & loss, and difficult life transitions.
My goal is to facilitate your healing, growth, and transformation. Rooted in the psychodynamic orientation, my therapeutic approach is "active eclectic", utilizing cognitive behavioral, Adlerian, and solution-focused interventions. I facilitate change by helping clients understand the underlying reasons why they feel conflicted and by helping identify patterns of behavior that are keeping them stuck. Together we work to develop new ways to respond to present day challenges.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
