Having completed fellowships in Child & Adolescent Psychodynamic Therapy, and Adult Psychodynamic Therapy, I work primarily with children, adolescents, and young adults. I work from a base of psychodynamic and interpersonal talk therapy (in the form of play with younger children) to build awareness and to work through internal distress or conflict. I augment this work by using third-wave CBT modalities, which draw on mindfulness strategies and skills, in order to use ‘achieved awareness and understanding’, to live in new, more balanced, skillful, and regulated ways.

I do believe each person and family has unique resources to activate healing processes. Brief Therapy requires a highly collaborative approach between therapist and clients, and focuses on practical solutions and clear communication. Brief Therapy offers a maximum of 10 sessions but usually don't need that many to promote change in the problem that is presented. I work with individuals, couples and families with a variety of problems: marital conflict and affairs, depression and anxiety, children and adolescent problems, addiction, eating disorders, stress and work related problems. I also provide online-therapy services.

I love working with teens and adults who feel exhausted from thinking so much about food and their body. Who wish they could just 'eat normally' but can't even remember what that feels like anymore. Or those who are worried about your teen who is struggling with an eating disorder. Whether you are seeking eating disorder therapy for yourself or a loved one, I can help.

I provide affirmative, directive, solution focused, relational, insight-oriented therapy to services to adult and older adolescent populations and incorporate clients' faith/religion/spiritual beliefs.
Teens and adults living with low self-esteem, medical challenges, relationship challenges including family of origin issues, grief, identity/culture/immigrant experiences, life transitions, trauma, and anxiety and/or depression work with me to identify and implement strategies to manage or eliminate stress and distress. Through a process of identifying, understanding and evaluating emotional states, thinking and behavior patterns we eliminate and replace unproductive habits with more adaptive patterns toward an increased sense of well-being and ability to thrive and function satisfactorily.

From child or adolescent therapy to couples or group therapy, we offer the services that will help you and your loved ones lives improve dramatically.
How does anyone choose a therapist? The variety of options are daunting, and while many, many people have been to or go to a therapist, it is not a topic easily discussed, so it can be hard to find a recommendation. Many people resort to picking the person whose face looked nice, or went to a school they recognize, or work in a convenient location or accept their insurance. Often these techniques are sufficient, but when they are not it is a great loss, as it takes so much courage to look for a therapist in the first place.

Making the decision to help a child or teen who is struggling academically, behaviorally, socially and/or emotionally may be the most important decision you make. I see each child/ teen as a puzzle. Sometimes the pieces fit together perfectly and other times it is necessary to work really hard to find the right piece to complete the puzzle. I use a variety of techniques - play therapy, sand therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy. I believe that a child is part of a larger system, including parents, siblings, and schools. I strive to work with all aspects of a child's world.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
