Something is not working — in your relationship, in your intimacy, or in how you feel about yourself as a partner or sexual person. You may have tried to address it on your own, or avoided the conversation entirely. Either way, reaching out takes courage, and it is the right first step. I work with couples navigating conflict, betrayal, loss of intimacy, and the slow drift that builds in long-term relationships. I also work with individuals — primarily men — addressing erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, low desire, and out-of-control sexual behavior. Whatever brought you here, you do not have to keep navigating it alone.

You may look fine on the outside, but inside something feels off. You've gotten really good at pushing through, staying busy, and holding it all together. Most people probably wouldn't guess how much you're carrying. But when things get quiet, you find yourself wondering why you still feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure of where your life is headed. You've likely spent a lot of time trying to figure it out on your own. You've thought about it, analyzed it, talked it through, and searched for answers. Yet something still feels unresolved.

I’m a highly trained somatic therapist specializing in trauma and anxiety disorders. Many of the people who come to see me have always felt a little different, deeply thoughtful, sensitive, and aware, but also frustrated that traditional approaches to healing haven’t fully helped. You may understand your problems intellectually, yet still feel the stress, tension, or anxiety living in your body. Somatic therapy works differently. Instead of only talking about problems, we work directly with the nervous system and the body’s natural capacity to heal.

Life has a way of leading us exactly where we’re meant to be. After a successful first career, I made the decision in my mid-40s to return to school earning my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, a choice that felt less like a change and more like coming home. My greatest strength as a therapist is meeting people where they are—without judgment, pretense, or pressure. I believe in creating a space where you can show up as your full self, with all the complexity that makes you human. Together, we’ll work at your pace, focusing on genuine understanding, personal growth, and lasting change.

Do you find yourself overthinking, being hard on yourself, or feeling like something just isn't working? Maybe you feel stuck. You might even feel "broken" and like no one understands you. While coping techniques and self-help materials can offer temporary relief for emotional wounds, there may be something deeper at the core driving how you feel. Whether you are new to therapy, are finding a new therapist, or are continuing your healing journey after many years, I will meet you wherever you are to help you find a way forward. Together, we'll figure out what is taking place at your core that needs to heal.

Have your loved ones recommended that you talk to someone, or told you to get your act together? Are feelings of sadness and anxiety impacting your ability to function? Are old emotional wounds stopping you from enjoying life? Do you find yourself engaging in unhealthy habits to cope with stress? Does getting through each day feel like an uphill battle? Do you feel completely alone or misunderstood by those around you? If you related to any of these questions then you are in the right place. My name is Bennett Heitt, and I am a Registered Psychology Associate practicing under Dr. Frank Wolkenberg's supervision (License No. 03685).

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
