I work with children, adolescents, and adults providing individual, group, marital, and
family
therapies.
There are so many changes that happen as families grow and develop with the passing years. I am here to help with these transitions. As such, I incorporate both traditional and spiritual approaches to mental health in my practice. I believe that change happens when people are given the guidance they need to draw on their own strengths and realize their potential to live fulfilling, happy lives. I provide an environment of compassion and support to help individuals and families overcome obstacles to move forward and thrive.

I have specialized training and extensive experience in relationship and
family
issues, including pre-marital, marital, post-partum, parenting and divorce.
From childhood through adulthood and into our golden years every stage of life presents a series of challenges. Sometimes these challenges become obstacles that prevent one from enjoying a fulfilling life. I specialize in helping courageous heterosexual, gay, and lesbian adults and couples, improve their lives, relationships, and achieve their goals by facilitating insights and new ways of thinking, to more effectively cope with the normal stressors of life. My method is patient-driven and collaborative, though psychodynamic in orientation. I utilize cognitive/behavioral, relational, inter-personal, solution-based, and mindfulness theories in my eclectic and unique approach to individual, couples, and group therapy.

My ideal client is at a crossroads for change. They have an idea of what they need to do but they need support in beginning & maintaining change. They're tired of thinking about what their life could be like & they have found motivation to begin working towards their ideal life. They need to address unprocessed trauma, identify & change maladaptive patterns/cycles of behavior. They're navigating the world as an immigrant whether 1st or 3rd generation. They are learning that their values do not necessarily align with that of their
family
& culture. They are looking to accept who they are & begin being their true self in all settings.

Trauma can leave you feeling defeated and disconnected from yourself and others. You want to keep everything from falling apart but it's getting harder and harder.
Family
and friends tell you to "be strong", but you're not sure if that's possible. Emotions are more intense than they've ever been and you're feeling overwhelmed, unsafe, scared, anxious and frustrated. You desperately want to share your feelings but fear no one will understand; you're feeling isolated and alone. Does this sound familiar?

I believe therapy is a collaborative process and my highest priority is creating a safe space for clients to share and process things that aren't easy to deal with on their own or in the "real world". I support clients in utilizing their own inner strengths and resources to deal with the difficulties inherent in being a human being. I've worked in the mental health and substance abuse fields for over 10 years and also have a substantial amount of my own personal experience in healing and recovery work to offer to my clients.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
