Building a career often means building a life that moves. The people I work with are often federal employees, foreign service and military families, embassy and international organization staff, expats and international professionals, third-culture adults, global grad students, and partners in intercultural or mixed marriages. High-achieving and outwardly capable, they are often wrestling with questions about connection, identity, or what they want from their relationships. Some are navigating relocation or cultural dissonance. Others face something more acute, like substance use concerns or eroded trust.

Accepting New Clients - Sometimes we can move on from our past, but what happens when we can't? I specialize in working with adults who feel stuck in patterns rooted in trauma, attachment wounds or early relational experiences. Using a trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive lens, I integrate an attachment/psychodynamic theory in the work that we do, pulling from a variety of interventions. I honor that you know yourself best and what helps one person, may not help another. If anxiety, trauma, or repeated relationship patterns are leaving you overwhelmed or stuck, I can help you build clarity, resilience, and new ways forward.

I see therapy not just as a form of a treatment but also as a gift we give to ourselves. Through therapy, we explore our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and our relationship with others, including work and society. These explorations can be done alone but is more effective with a therapist, who can see patterns, themes, options, and solutions that we often overlook ourselves. Your relationship with me is a safe space to explore, to understand, to connect, and ultimately, to heal. Together, we will use evidence based therapeutic methods to develop healthy relationships with ourselves and with others.

Clients come to counseling for various reasons. In my experience with the clients, some of them just needed time and space for them to be heard because they did not have that resource with others in their life. Their friends and family could be great support but couldn’t necessarily offer professional help such as treatment. Some people, including myself, may struggle with things they are not able to express clearly. Some may be just confused about life and need some coaching from the counselors.

Are you dealing with multiple challenges that impact your daily life—like anxiety, feelings of low self-worth, communication breakdowns or relationship struggles? As a systemic therapist, I aim to explore and intervene in the patterns of interaction that sustain or perpetuate problems within these systems. The goal is not just to treat the individual, but to examine the broader relational or contextual dynamics that add to the issue. I believe that every challenge is an opportunity. By looking at these connections, we can uncover patterns and beliefs that may be contributing to your difficulties and work together to shift them.

I work best with clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or pulled in many directions—especially during periods of transition or identity change. They may look fine on the outside but feel exhausted or disconnected on the inside. My ideal client wants a therapist who understands cultural nuance, family dynamics, and the pressure to hold everything together. They’re ready to gain clarity, strengthen boundaries, and feel more balanced and authentic in their daily lives.

There are seasons in life that quietly undo us. A relationship ends, a new chapter begins, and we can feel the pressure to succeed and hold it together all at the same time. We also can feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of who we’re becoming. You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin therapy. Together, we can slow down what feels overwhelming, explore the patterns shaping your experience, and develop tools that support sustainable change in a steady and supportive space.

• • Accepting New Clients! :) • • Hi! I'm Neena - I’m so thankful you are thinking of including me in your therapeutic journey! I work mostly with adolescents + adults experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues, and/or racial trauma. Growing up as a first generation American, I have often found myself existing in spaces that did not provide me with a real sense of belonging. I believe that healing and growth in therapy occurs within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, so I am committed to creating a space where you feel like you truly belong: without judgment, without fear, and without expectations.

We all encounter overwhelming challenges that can leave us feeling powerless or hopeless. These emotional struggles often stem from deep-rooted beliefs and unresolved experiences that may be adverse or traumatic. I believe we all have the innate ability to heal and grow. My role as a therapist is to help clients reconnect with that resilience, gain deeper insight into their struggles, and rediscover a sense of hope, wholeness, and fulfillment.

FAQ - Asian Counselling
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.

How can I recognize an effective Asian therapist?
You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?
The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?
A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?
The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
