I am licensed in both Maryland and Delaware. Are you feeling overwhelmed in your job or having problems in your relationship? Is there something keeping you from being motivated? Could it be depression? After all, depression is like the common cold. Everyone gets it sooner or later. Have you suffered a loss? The loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of mobility? It can help to talk about it.

I believe counseling should focus on supporting the client in building a life worth living. Only you know what life "fits" you best, but it is helpful to have someone along for that journey, to point out lessons along the way! My goal is to help you identify what in your life keeps you stuck, what roles and values fulfill you, and to minimize the former while maximizing the latter. What kind of life "fits" you? Let's find out! "The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases." -Carl Jung. www.invisiblethreadcounseling.com

My ideal client wants to explore their reactions, life events, and internal states like their thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. They do not need to feel extra motivated or fearless but with curiosity and a willingness to explore and see what comes up. Perhaps you need help focusing or communicating with a partner, friend, family member, or workplace associate. Maybe you are trying to process difficult events. Maybe you would like to maintain mental health and perhaps find a higher level of functioning for yourself through self-development. I am open to working with many different goals and philosophies.

Do you feel caught between who your family needs you to be and who you really are? This push and pull can leave you feeling stressed, isolated, or unsure of yourself. Even if friends and family tend to rely on you, you don’t have to do this alone. Therapy is your space to process your life’s challenges, speak your truth, and build tools that work for you so you can feel clearer, stronger, and more at peace with yourself. You may be the "strong, independent one" in your relationships, but you need support too.

When this occurs in your life, you need support with getting back to the best version of you. You want to talk to someone you can trust, be vulnerable with, and who will listen to you.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
