I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Board Certified Art Therapist with over 15 years of experience in the field.
You may look like you’re functioning on the outside, yet inside feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that include emotional pain, relationship struggles, or substance use. Many of these challenges are rooted in unprocessed trauma and attachment wounds. I specialize in trauma-informed therapy using EMDR and integrative modalities to help you get to the root of your pain, not just manage symptoms. Together, we work with both the brain and body so change feels safe, lasting, and real—supporting you in building greater emotional stability, healthier relationships, and a more compassionate connection with yourself.

Therapy can be an intimidating process. How often have you pushed your mental health aside because life grew hectic; were told to “practice self-care” but aren’t sure what that entails; or been told to “just get over something” and you’re left feeling lost or overwhelmed? Being a human is challenging! We’re filled with complicated emotions that derive from our lived experiences, environment, family dynamics, personality, and genetics. My goal is to help you sort some of that out to relieve depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflict.

Is your family struggling right now? Is your child having issues in school? Are you feeling hopeless or helpless? Have you undergone a traumatic event you have not been able to talk about or work through? I understand these things can be difficult and therapy is something that could assist you in moving forward in your life. I believe that reaching out to a therapist is a great place to start and I would appreciate the opportunity to be that person.

I believe that everyone can benefit from the practice of art making.
Art therapy is a lot like traditional talk therapy, but with the sensory, kinesthetic, and symbolic dimensions added by the creative process. Using materials and techniques in art therapy allows for the exploration of thoughts and feelings beyond verbal expression alone. No artistic experience required!

With the stress of the modern world, our hustle and bustle culture, and the limited time we have for connection today- people come to therapy looking for a place to let it all out. It's easy to fall into cycles of negative self talk, worry, or old triggers from our childhood. One thing I know for sure is we can't heal all on our own, and finding an authentic connection who can support you is invaluable. I can offer warmth, compassion, perspective, and mindfulness with a healthy dose of humor. I am here to help you guide and explore your feelings and reassure you that you are indeed, not your negative thoughts.

“In every adult there lurks a child— an eternal child, something that is always becoming, is never completed, and calls for unceasing care, attention, and education. That is the part of the personality which wants to develop and become whole.“ -Carl Jung.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
