I understand the unique challenges you face in trying to live authentically in a world that often de mands conformity.
My ideal client is anyone, from pre-teen to adult, grappling with the challenges of self-discovery, emotional expression, and finding their place in the world. They may experience anxiety, depression, or trauma, often feeling disconnected or pressured to fit into societal expectations. They could be neurodiverse, disabled, LGBTQ+, or straight and cisgender. I also work with military service members. My clients seek a safe, empathetic space to explore and embrace their authentic selves. Their goal is to better understand who they are, build self-acceptance, and navigate life's transitions with greater confidence and resilience.

Therapy is a vessel for a client to reach and achieve their personal goals. I strongly believe that everyone has the ability to create, implement, and achieve their goals with the help and assistance of their therapist. I've worked in a variety of settings, including residential rehabilitation programs supporting individuals living with chronic mental illness, outpatient mental health clinics and social/emotional support groups for transition aged youth and young adults.

Do you feel like you have run into a bit of a wall trying to navigate challenges in your life? Are you wondering how to improve your mood or lessen your anxiety when talk therapy hasn't always worked for you? I am here to work with you in exploring, accepting and traversing such obstacles. I specialize in working with pre-teens, adolescents, and young adults, and have done so for over 14 years as a teacher (MST) and mental health practitioner (MSW) in Harlem, NY and Washington, DC. This experience has given me a tremendous amount of insight into the challenges that young people face in today's world and today's academic settings.

In addition, I have worked for many years with the bariatric treatment group at Medstar Montgomery.
Hello. If you are considering psychotherapy, a good "fit" with your psychologist is essential. I have been a practicing clinical psychologist for over forty years. During that time, I have also been a psychology professor at Montgomery College. My theoretical orientation is a pragmatic blend of cognitive, hu manistic, psychodynamic and behavioral, but I am also a firm believer in the value of positive psychology. I try not to diagnose people, but rather work with the entire individual, especially with their strengths. I am not the "silent, blank-screen" kind of therapist.

I utilize person-centered therapy, mindfulness, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and more to provide you with the tools you need to manage your difficulties confidently.
I know how challenging life can be, especially during transition or stress. Going to college, starting a new career, dealing with family and/or relationship changes, and experiencing an illness can all cause anxiety and mood changes. These times can be even more difficult if you already struggle with a lack of confidence and low self-esteem and don't have the tools to manage your stress and anxiety. Finding mental health treatment is no easy task. It can be frustrating to navigate insurance and find the right provider. But don't worry; I'm here to help!

I am dedicated to utilizing my extensive experience and education to assist individuals and families in promoting growth and self-understanding in their mental health. My goal is to help manage day-to-day life challenges and navigate life transitions. These transitions—whether for older adults facing significant life changes, young adults moving from college into the workforce, or adolescents transitioning from high school to college—can be daunting and anxiety-inducing. They often bring feelings of being stuck, fears of the unknown, and issues related to separation from family and friends.

I CAN HELP YOU HEAL YOUR RELATIONSHIP. PREMARITAL AND COUPLES COUNSELING. "Why does my partner overreact?" "Why do I get so triggered?" "How come the punishment doesn't fit the crime?" “Why can’t he be more supportive?” “Is anything I do ever enough for her?” While you are feeling hurt, you have an added layer of confusion. You simultaneously love your partner and even hope to stay in this relationship to keep your love, family, and dreams intact. You are torn in a tug-of-war of emotions and desire to feel understood, accepted, and embraced by your partner.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
