I specialize in working with individuals who are experiencing life challenges including: anxiety, depression, loss/grief, relationship issues, life transitions and stress from living abroad for govt/military.
Is anxiety preventing you from living life authentically and with contentment and satisfaction? Are you in the middle of a significant transition and need support? Now is the right time to process these feelings and develop tools and strategies to address them. I offer secure teletherapy to clients who want to start the process. I help clients develop concrete strategies to relieve symptoms, while simultaneously exploring the root of their anxieties or other challenges. Think of of therapy as filling a tool box that you take with you when you leave.

We thrive from emotional connections and sometimes those connections become strained by misunderstandings or disconnected through loss and we are left feeling distraught. Learn to develop effective communication skills, embrace grief, identify ways to cope, build trusting relationships with your significant other and those you care about. After a painful relationship sometimes we become unsure of the next step. Want someone to understand painful past experiences, anxiety, depression or indecision and how this gets in the way of a life you want to live? Take a deep breath, take the next step and call. No need to wait any longer.

I love working with couples and individuals with difficulty in romantic relationships (i.e. sexual issues, communication, infidelity, divorce), adults who come from dysfunctional childhoods, as well as those with anxiety, impulsivity, and addiction. I also enjoy working with those in non-traditional romantic relationships (i.e. ethically non-monogamous, polyamorous). I am LGBTQIA- affirming and sex positive. I work best with clients who are engaged, thoughtful, and motivated for change. My style is empathic and direct, with a sense of humor. I believe strongly in the therapeutic alliance and the client/therapist fit.

It is common to feel frustrated and misunderstood at times within our significant relationships, particularly with an intimate partner . When we repeatedly feel unheard and blamed, feelings of resentment may build, contributing to chronic feelings of rupture and disconnection. Over time, this dynamic can become emotionally and physically exhausting. What once felt like a perfect union, may start feeling like a pattern of never-ending conflict. Many couples can fall into this frustrating cycle of miscommunication, feeling misunderstood and resentment.

Did you know that 90% of the people who have had previous therapy do not remember what they learned? I have a sign in my office that says "What did you learn today?" I will work in partnership with you as a therapist and teacher. I work with women and men age 18+ who have depression, anxiety, trauma, self esteem or relationship issues. I will ask your goals for therapy. We will look at three major issues: (1) Both negative and positive patterns in your life; (2) the context of your environment and its impact on you; and (3) life's bumps in the road.

I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and couples from all walks of life.
Has there been something big that's happened that you want to talk through? Are you and your partner having the same fight over and over again? Have you lost your voice, or are you simply trying to find it in this crazy, loud world? Therapy provides a chance to help you explore who you are and how you relate to others. The knowledge you gain can help point you towards the life you long for. Finding the right therapist to do this with is so important. You should feel comfortable and safe, without worrying about being judged.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
