Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in reactions they can’t control—panic, shutdown, self-doubt, or relationship patterns that don’t make sense anymore. These responses often come from past experiences that the body hasn’t fully processed. I work with clients who want more than coping skills—they want real relief. Using EMDR and a trauma-informed approach, we focus on helping your nervous system feel safer so change can actually last.

Navigating the various emotional and social challenges of life can be frustrating and lonely. You may appear fine to the outside world, but underneath feel sensitive to home/school/work environments. Some people find they are using a lot of mental energy fighting off the insensitive words/actions of others, unspoken societal pressures, or general worries. Over time, this can wear down your self-worth and impact your relationships. It can make all the difference when you find a space where you feel understood and are free to express your genuine emotions.

As children, we are learning from interactions with our parents who we are and how to fit into the world around us. After we leave home, we become our own parents as we continue to learn about ourselves and how to find our own place in life. And when we have families of our own, we are now parents both for our children and for ourselves, as we continue to understand more about who we are. I provide a warm, empathic and accepting environment where you can explore your current life challenges, as well as address past issues that impact your everyday life.

My name is Juanita Fontenot, and I believe in a person-centered approach to everything, as we are humans first. I also think the resiliency of the human spirit is often unnoticed but should be celebrated. We all have value, and once you believe this, the impact is life-changing. I want to work with you! You who have doubted your value because of what others have said, you who want to make a change, but feel stuck because it's just too much, you who are willing to do the work to make the change you wish to see. And you, you who need someone in your corner.

I take a trauma-informed, integrative approach that blends CBT, ACT, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, somatic, and Gestalt techniques.
You’re feeling stuck, despite functioning on the outside. Maybe compulsive and addictive behaviors keep resurfacing, no matter how hard you try to stop them, or you find yourself running on coffee and self-criticism just to get through the day before crashing. You might look put-together, yet feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or constantly on edge.
You’ve likely tried coping tools, self-help, or past therapy. You understand what you should be doing, but something deeper still hasn’t shifted, leaving you feeling frustrated, discouraged, and exhausted.
If this sounds like you, you're not broken- and you're not alone.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
