We are all driven to realize our true potential and live a life that we are happy to live. I view health in a holistic manner, which means I acknowledge the multidimensionality of health, such as: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, interpersonal, etc. As a Black psychologist, I recognize the influence our social environment has on our mental health and wellness. I believe that the health and wellness of these multidimensional aspects, makes us whole, healthy, and happy.

Whether you have feelings of depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, or a challenging life transition, I will collaborate with you to help you find clarity.

A quiet space to talk about feelings and life experiences can help when we are overwhelmed or stuck. The desire for inner peace and hope during turmoil often brings people to therapy. Traumatic experiences coupled with current life stress often take our energy and hope away. These need to be gently addressed in order to feel more comfortable in life. I respect that each person does this in his or her own unique manner. I also work with individuals who find their "golden years" may include depression, isolation, illness, grief and loss.

Whether you are experiencing a change or wanting to make one, the therapy process can help you through it. Finding a therapist that fits your needs is important. I work hard to meet clients "where they are" in making change, and approach therapy in a non-judgmental, transparent, collaborative, authentic, open, warm, and direct manner. I prioritize open dialogue about our therapy process to ensure you are getting what you want from our work together, and invite client feedback to hold me accountable to providing good clinical service. I am an active therapist, and see my role as guiding clients through an often unfamiliar process.

Reaching out for help is difficult, but giving yourself the opportunity for emotional healing is an incredible gift to offer yourself and your loved ones. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and anger can surface from a multitude of stressors: relationships, work, parenting, or a difficult past resurfacing in your present life. I work with people to help create meaning out of difficulty and embrace a healthier life. Through identifying and coming to grips with fears, we are better able to know ourselves so we can connect in healthy ways in existing relationships, as well as build valuable new ones.

Starting therapy can be scary. You have to talk with a stranger about your most private worries. But somehow, if we make a connection, the therapy space feels like a safe place to talk and feel and be curious about your anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma or whatever nudges you to seek extra support. To me, therapy is all about exploring your inner landscape, finding helpful ways to soothe yourself, developing self-compassion, untangling old stuff that still gets in the way, and becoming empowered to make healthy choices. As hard as we work, we can laugh together, too! Laughter is good medicine.

Do you find yourself wanting to experience life and relationships differently? Wanting to feel more understood, valued, connected, alive? Do you tend to keep things in, to try to figure everything out on your own, because that's what you learned was safe, or reliable, or strong? Do you wonder what is next, or who you are beyond work or being a partner or a parent? Having the courage to ask for help - to let others see us in all our messiness - is how we come to experience real healing and connection. Sharing our story in a safe space makes it easier to own its painful parts and to gain freedom through letting go.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
