When you or a loved one is struggling it can be hard to know where to start in bringing about positive change. It may seem like the strategies you are using to make things better just aren’t working, which can lead to feeling stuck, hopeless and uncertain. I believe therapy should be a collaborative and safe space to work together on better understanding how your thoughts, emotions and behaviors interact, with the goal being to find strategies and solutions that help you to live a life consistent with your values. My specialties include eating disorders, divorce and navigating life transitions.

My ideal clients are teens and adults navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, personality disorders, sexuality, intimacy, relationship issues, and/or LGBTQIA+ concerns. Many come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated by patterns that seem to repeat despite their best efforts to change them. Therapy is a place to better understand those patterns, learn practical ways of responding to them, and work toward a life that feels more manageable and authentic. I believe therapy works best when people feel accepted for who they are while still being able to have honest conversations about what's getting in the way.

Sometimes you find yourself in a place in your life and you’re just not sure how you arrived there. You may feel stuck, disconnected, or quietly questioning how you got where you are today. This can show up as chronic dissatisfaction, relationship patterns that don’t change, difficulties with setting boundaries, or a lingering sense of confusion about your choices and direction.

When your emotions hit, they don’t just feel like a passing wave—they feel like an absolute tidal wave. You might find yourself constantly swinging between feeling completely overwhelmed by anxiety, anger, or sadness, and then feeling totally numb and disconnected. If old trauma keeps hijacking your present, making it hard to trust yourself or maintain stable relationships, you are not alone. It is exhausting to live in survival mode, but you do not have to navigate this internal chaos by yourself. I specialize in helping individuals reclaim control over their emotional worlds.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
