You made your own meals, applied to school solo, and left home as soon as you could. You survived relentless drama growing up. No longer reliant on the unreliable your life is solid now yet, you are struggling with anxiety and depression. Years ago you found parent surrogates, mostly guys that were no good for you except they gave you attention. Your choices in partners/company made it clear you believed every negative thing you were told. You are still paying for those young choices. Relationships with 'good people' feel complicated. You learned to trust others with nothing and always have a backup.

Nice to meet you! I believe therapy isn’t about “fixing” you it’s about creating a safe nonjudgmental space where you can uncover what’s truly affecting your life and begin to move forward. I work with individuals striving for excellence, those who carry the weight of trauma, generational patterns, or high expectations, yet continue to push forward in their personal and professional lives. In our work together, you’ll have a space to pause, reflect, and connect the dots between past experiences and how they show up today whether in relationships, self-esteem, emotional regulation, or anxiety and depression.

Are you anxious and stressed? Do you fear disapproval and avoid confrontation? I get it! I facilitate change by first identifying the fixed thoughts and assumptions that interfere with fulfillment. Does your relationship/marriage need tools to navigate disagreements? Childhood experiences powerfully impact our self-statements, so you won't leave our sessions without exploring your youth - - who loved you, who didn't, and how you now cope and react. Couples therapy sessions will also provide this same in-depth approach with an emphasis on communication strategies. I am also trauma-informed and treat C-PTSD clients.

Therapy with me is steady, and less intimidating. Many of my clients come in carrying long-held beliefs about themselves — that they are “too much,” not good enough, broken, or somehow bad. I help clients slow those beliefs down, understand where they came from, and begin building a more honest and compassionate view of themselves. My style is warm, collaborative, practical, and direct. I listen closely, look for patterns, and help clients make sense of their emotions, relationships, and life experiences in a way that feels clear and useful.

I've done so much work on myself...so why do I still feel stuck? Maybe you understand your patterns but keep repeating them anyway. Or everyone thinks you have it together, but holding it all together is exhausting. Or you've achieved what you thought would finally bring peace or fulfillment, only to find something still feels missing. Maybe painful experiences—losses, overwhelming events, or relationship wounds—still shape how you see yourself, others, or the world. You may find yourself wondering, "Is this just who I am now?" If this resonates, I want you to know: I don't believe you're broken, and change is possible.

I am accepting new clients! I work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their childhood as well as throughout their lives. This compiled trauma over the years can often cause trouble emotionally regulating or feeling strong in your sense of self. Maybe you struggle with perfectionism, all or nothing thinking, or self criticism. Perhaps you have struggled with controlling your impulses, relationships never seem to stick, and chaos and crisis seems to follow you wherever you go. We can process and relieve feelings such as shame, distrust, overwhelm, panic, irritability, anger, and depression without judgement.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
