I believe by exploring our past experiences and relationships we can find answers to better understand our own behaviors and thought processes. Our best healing happens throughout the context of a safe relationship and that is what I offer in therapy; a safe place where my client can explore their pain, trauma, hurt, and confusion in order to heal and live the most meaningful life possible. My clients know what their goals are and are excited to get to work but may need more accountability or support. Sometimes they aren't so clear and I can help with that, too!

As a person experiencing anxiety, a stressful life transition, overwhelming emotions or symptoms of trauma, you are motivated to feel good again and reclaim your life. You’ve tried to fix it on your own, but nothing seems to work, at least not for very long. You’re worried things might get worse, or maybe they already have. You know healing is possible, but it seems out of reach. Choosing to start, or restart therapy can be scary! You want to make sure you select the right person who you can really connect with and feel confident has the expertise to help.

Often we wait until we have exhausted every measure before we seek professional help. You can start on your journey to healing, reconciliation, peace, and joy today. I believe that in times of adversity and struggle, we have the greatest potential for growth. It is often hard to see clearly how the difficulties we face will lead to positive changes, so instead we lose our way and get stuck in places of frustration, despair, and resentment. The change process is a journey-sometimes long and at times short. It is a process that gives us the opportunity to discover new ways of approaching our circumstances.

Do you feel trapped by circumstances beyond your control? Are you unable to escape negative thoughts? Have you forgotten why you made the decisions that led you to this moment? Talk therapy can offer a way forward. Therapy can be a safe space to catch your breath, to talk out ideas that feel strange or risky, and to devise a new strategy for reconnecting with your best self. I'll do my best to help no matter what you're facing but right now I'm especially enthusiastic about working with young adults and professionals coping with ADHD, men's issues, relationship issues, bipolar disorder, depression, anger management and anxiety.

Welcome! I specialize in working with adults who experience persistent anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma, family conflict, multicultural issues, and life transitions. More specifically, I support clients with challenges around mood, assertiveness, self-esteem, boundary-setting, “people pleasing”, frequent guilt, neglect, or just not feeling good enough. I work especially well with those who have experienced unhealthy relationship dynamics, such as emotional abuse or manipulation. My background as a first-generation Greek-American has also contributed to my knowledge of and interest in cross-cultural concerns.

In our day to day lives, it can be difficult to notice changes in our mood, behavior or relationships and how that shift may be affecting our overall well-being. These changes can be caused by various stressors in our lives. As a therapist, I bring a genuine sense of compassion for the difficulties my clients face, placing great emphasis on building meaningful relationships, transparency, and authenticity. My integrated approach to care utilizes aspects of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness techniques to work towards a patient centered conceptualization of health.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
