In today's fast-paced world, I often see adults facing life transitions that bring about a range of emotions and challenges. Whether you're experiencing a career shift, changes in relationship dynamics, aging, or adapting to new social roles, these transitions can lead to feelings of uncertainty and stress. Compounded by issues like depression, anxiety, grief, and unresolved trauma, navigating these phases can be overwhelming. My ideal clients are those in the midst of these tumultuous times, looking not just to cope but to thrive.

My Ideal client is someone who wants to talk about what's bothering them, to tell their story, to look at it all: what they want, what they've lost, what they are afraid of, and what they feel about who they are right now. The story includes the influences of their family of origin, and the traumatic events they've lived through, what they've achieved, and what they long for.

• • Accepting New Clients! • • Hi! I'm Neena - I’m so thankful you are thinking of including me in your therapeutic journey! I work mostly with adolescents + adults experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues, and/or racial trauma. Growing up as a first generation American, I have often found myself existing in spaces that did not provide me with a real sense of belonging. I believe that healing and growth in therapy occurs within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, so I am committed to creating a space where you feel like you truly belong: without judgment, without fear, and without expectations.

My work as a therapist has centered around working with adult women of color to overcome unique challenges, including those related to transition, motherhood, and self-esteem.
Self-love, feeling grounded, confidence, and balance each play a large role in how we cope with life's stressors. Lacking in any one of these could easily result in some level of suffering. In addition, the world we live in can be stressful and overwhelming at times, with many faced with unresolved issues and emotional challenges.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
