Therapy with me is steady, and less intimidating. Many of my clients come in carrying long-held beliefs about themselves — that they are “too much,” not good enough, broken, or somehow bad. I help clients slow those beliefs down, understand where they came from, and begin building a more honest and compassionate view of themselves. My style is warm, collaborative, practical, and direct. I listen closely, look for patterns, and help clients make sense of their emotions, relationships, and life experiences in a way that feels clear and useful.

I am accepting new clients! I work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their childhood as well as throughout their lives. This compiled trauma over the years can often cause trouble emotionally regulating or feeling strong in your sense of self. Maybe you struggle with perfectionism, all or nothing thinking, or self criticism. Perhaps you have struggled with controlling your impulses, relationships never seem to stick, and chaos and crisis seems to follow you wherever you go. We can process and relieve feelings such as shame, distrust, overwhelm, panic, irritability, anger, and depression without judgement.

Hi, I'm Jesse! At the heart of my work as a psychotherapist is a commitment to accompany clients as they navigate towards more fulfilling and meaningful lives, free from the unconscious anchors of the past. I recognize that when the storm envelops everything, it is sometimes impossible to avoid having your light extinguished by it. There is a path forward. Together, we can illuminate it.

A client is someone who feels overwhelmed by life’s challenges and is seeking clarity, support, and healthier ways to manage their emotions and cope. They may be a teen navigating academic pressures, identity development, or family stress, or an adult managing relationship difficulties, work stress, or personal transitions. Often, they struggle with anxiety, sadness, self-doubt, or unresolved conflicts. What they want most is to feel understood, to make sense of their emotions, and to find strategies that allow them to move forward with confidence.

You appear to have it all together but feel disconnected from yourself and loved ones. You're the parent who loves deeply but struggles to connect, the professional succeeding while battling anxiety, the young adult overwhelmed by life's pressures. Your relationships feel transactional, your achievements feel hollow, and you're exhausted from perfectionism. You want authentic connection but don't know how to stop performing. You need someone who understands that looking successful and feeling fulfilled are completely different things.

I work with adults, teens, and kids who struggle to express themselves effectively, navigate challenges in relationships, and heal from difficult past experiences. I often see adults who are feeling overwhelmed or frustrated after trying to manage symptoms of anxiety, ADHD, trauma, or depression on their own. Many of the teens and kids that I see feel a lot of pressure to perform better in school, have difficulties around interacting with their parents or peers, or struggle to motivate themselves without relying on self-criticism. My clients often want skills and strategies so we spend time discussing and practicing them together.

My work is trauma-informed and grounded in Schema Therapy and the mind-body connection.
My ideal client is an adolescent, college student, or adult navigating anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, trauma, grief, or major life transitions. They may feel unsure where to start and are seeking relief, clarity, and coping tools, in addition to insight. They’re motivated to better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and build emotional stability, but may need support to feel safe, grounded, and confident enough to take those steps.

I draw from many therapeutic orientations, including CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic, and schema therapy, among others, to create a personalized and YOU-centered approach.
Anxiety. Depression. Trauma. OCD. Marital discord. All relevant, all common, all necessary to address. However, one must remember who is hidden behind all the pain and struggle. YOU. Therapy affords the opportunity to peel away the layers and learn to understand yourself better. Therapy helps facilitate the healing of pain, the reduction of symptoms, and the triumph through the various struggles we all face in life. My therapeutic approach is designed to help you discover and understand you within your context and story, to then be able to better address the symptoms and barriers you are facing in life.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
