In life, there are times when we need to face challenging situations and make changes, but we may need help to think things through. I work from the perspective that all of us can bring certain strengths to bear and that we can benefit from self-understanding in order to use our strengths to the best of our abilities. Through a collaborative framework, I help people cope with the pressures of everyday life, transitions that are challenging and/or stressful as well as longstanding concerns such as learning difficulties, anxieties, mood problems, interpersonal concerns, and life transitions.

My experience is primarily working with adults with
ADHD
and/or trauma. I love to help clients with
ADHD
build systems to help them meet the challenges of their executive dysfunction head on. As a person with
ADHD
myself I understand the unique challenge of feeling like you're fighting against your brain to make things happen. I have also trained in providing EMDR therapy to help reprocess traumatic experiences and negative thoughts. Trauma means different things to different people, but whatever it means to you is valid.

(teens and adults), pregnancy/postpartum issues, parenting stress, and challenges associated with body image and eating disorders, as well as navigating complex health issues.
Welcome! I consider it a privilege to walk alongside another’s life journey. Taking the first step and researching counselors can be nerve-wracking. I am here to provide a warm, relaxed, compassionate and open-minded space to explore your concerns and goals. (I also value a sprinkle of humor). When treating
ADHD
, you NEED a therapist who wholeheartedly understands it and whose strategies are flexible to meet your specific needs. Imposing “neurotypical” ways of thought and behavior -does not- work for the
ADHD
brain. I am passionate about finding creative ways to help individuals with
ADHD
learn to accept themselves and thrive.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
