My approach incorporates cognitive behavioral theories, mindfulness and acceptance, EMDR/
trauma
-focused and holistic methods.
I provide services for clients who I believe have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I offer a professional relationship with my clients to assist them in exploring and resolving difficult issues. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. Self-awareness and self-acceptance are goals that sometimes take a long time to achieve. While some clients may need only a few counseling sessions to feel complete, others may require months. I offer a caring, empathic space to explore, heal and to try new ways of being.

I often use DBT, EMDR and
Trauma
Focused CBT to address the unique set of circumstances, needs and strengths that each person brings to therapy.
Childhood and adolescence can present a unique set of challenges for many young people. Having worked in several settings, including inpatient hospitalization and residential treatment, as well as private and public schools, I have many years of experience in helping children and teens to find their voice, overcome obstacles and flourish into healthy, strong adults. I believe that a warm, compassionate, nonjudgmental relationship combined with evidenced based practices can provide a strong foundation for change and healing.

Holding space for millennial women to let go of perfectionism, stop people-pleasing, and heal from the past. You feel stuck reliving the past and un-loveable despite "knowing" that you are enough. You've done therapy before but found yourself feeling worse. Does this sound familiar? It's not all in your head.
Trauma
impacts our perspective and causes us to the see the present through the eyes of the past. This can impact everything from our relationships with friends, to sleep and our performance at work. However, healing is possible if we know how to go about healing it.

Bessel van der Kolk once wrote that “
trauma
is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on the mind, brain, and body. This imprint has ongoing consequences for how the human organism manages to survive in the present.” I have come to have enormous respect for the wide range of defense mechanisms each of us creates to help us survive
trauma
and problematic fits with our environment. I enjoy helping others to understand and cultivate compassion towards these parts of ourselves and to build new, more adaptive ways of coping and ultimately thriving.

Maybe you have experienced
trauma
in your life that you have repressed and you feel as if it is resurfacing and impacting your ability to be the best partner, parent or even person that you can be.
Paths traveled in life are rarely the straight and narrow. We often encounter twisted roads, bumpy roads, and dead ends. These distractions are just what they are, distractions from getting us to our true destinations. We often need that extra push of encouragement, that new set of directions or even just a moment to regroup, regather, recommit and push forth. Its a normal part of life to face obstacles and we often underestimate our ability to overcome the challenges faced. Maybe you are dealing with conflicts with your significant other, teenaged children, financial struggles, all of this can make depression/anxiety/
trauma
harder.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
