There are often times we have developed parts of ourselves that could only cope using the skills, resources, and capacity we had available during a challenging period. These parts, although attempting to protect us, may no longer serve us in the way we needed them to before. Through ego state therapy (a model similar to IFS that supports structural dissociation), our relationship with these parts shifts from shame, regret, and anger into compassion, understanding, and collaboration.

Life can be stressful, down right overwhelming at times. “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”-Helen Keller. During these times when things become too difficult to manage on our own, counseling can help with learning healthier ways to cope, expressing deep emotions in a safe environment, working on goals, and reaching your potential. My years of experience related to the field are focused on assisting clients with trauma processing, developing a sense of purpose, disordered eating, reducing anxiety, and improving self-esteem.

Are you are feeling like traditional talk therapy is not enough? Are you finding that you aren't really feeling better after your therapy sessions? Do have a really busy life and scheduling your life around hourly sessions is no longer working for you? Well you've come to the right place. Talk therapy aims to change the way you think which is supposed to change the way you feel but our brains don't work that way. Then when you don't feel any better you are given coping skills that are supposed to do the trick. What if you actually felt differently about your past or your triggers and it naturally changed the way you thought?

I am a pre-licensed professional counselor specializing in trauma. Whether your experiences stem from childhood wounds, relationship trauma, loss, or events that were simply too overwhelming to process, you don't have to keep carrying them alone. Trauma keeps the nervous system locked in survival mode and traps you in a cycle of fear, shame, and anxiety. These responses aren't signs of weakness. They're the mind and body doing exactly what they were designed to do in the face of overwhelming experience. And with the right support, they can change.

Whether you're coming in as a couple or on your own, you may be feeling stuck—overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, or caught in painful patterns that repeat in your relationships. Maybe communication feels impossible, conflict escalates quickly, or you're longing for connection but don’t know how to get there. I help people get to the heart of what’s really going on—beyond just the words, beyond logic—by working with the deeper systems that shape how we feel, react, and relate. Together, we’ll create space to slow down, understand your nervous system, and help you connect to what matters most in your life.

As a clinical health psychologist with 20 years of experience, my unique approach gives you the best of traditional therapies (e.g., CBT and PRT) AND lifestyle medicine (e.g., nervous system regulation and sleep hygiene), I help clients reduce anxiety, improve chronic symptoms, and create lasting habits so they can feel calmer, healthier, and energized.
You look like you have it together on the outside, but inside, you’re exhausted. Maybe you’re dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, pain, weight, or a health issue that isn't captured on tests. You may feel dismissed and stuck in a cycle of trying things that don’t seem to work. Perhaps you’re someone who tends toward perfectionism, holds yourself to high standards, and takes care of everyone else but struggles to care for yourself in the same way. You want to feel better in your body and calmer in your mind. You want lasting change, not another short-term fix and are ready to regain energy, balance, and confidence in your life.

My areas of expertise include working with children and adolescents, particularly those experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, and general behavior difficulties. I received my PhD in both Clinical and School Psychology and worked for 2 years as a School Psychologist on the Eastern Shore before starting my private practice. My clinical training is in cognitive and behavior therapy. I help adolescents develop positive problem solving skills, which replace their current negative ways of coping. I also counsel adults with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, survivors of abuse, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
