I can provide
parenting
tips, strategies and techniques on how to help you re-connect and support your child or teen.
Is your teen struggling with making good choices, feeling isolated, experiencing school refusal, bullying, self-harming or simply not thriving? When children enter school they may be exposed to new peer groups, academic demands or uncertainty in their environment. Children tend to withdraw or demonstrate behavior changes when they are faced with challenges they don't know how to navigate. Parents often struggle how to best support their child. This is where counseling for children, teens and college students can provide guidance in supporting a child's social, emotional and academic growth.

You're a neurodivergent and/or queer person who is figuring out how to exist in a society that just doesn't make sense. Part of you wants to get it right but a part of you also hates the boxes dominant culture expects you to fit in. People's reactions make you question if you did the right thing when placing boundaries or making a request. OR You're a
parent
trying to figure out what's best for your child. Society has taught us a lot about which emotions are the correct ones to feel at certain times which doesn't feel right when it comes to helping your kid. They have big feelings and behaviors. Where do you start?

When appropriate, physiological relaxation strategies and
parent
training are also utilized.
Facing personal or family struggles is often difficult; making the decision to seek help can be even more so. I view the therapeutic process as a joint endeavor between the therapist and the individual or family involved. While the techniques and strategies employed in session are important, an individual's motivation and willingness to work are critical. When appropriate, this process can include an individual's family or specific family members. I often seek caregiver participation when working with children and adolescents. Parents and loved ones can be a powerful tool in eliciting growth and development.

Maybe you have experienced trauma in your life that you have repressed and you feel as if it is resurfacing and impacting your ability to be the best partner,
parent
or even person that you can be.
Paths traveled in life are rarely the straight and narrow. We often encounter twisted roads, bumpy roads, and dead ends. These distractions are just what they are, distractions from getting us to our true destinations. We often need that extra push of encouragement, that new set of directions or even just a moment to regroup, regather, recommit and push forth. Its a normal part of life to face obstacles and we often underestimate our ability to overcome the challenges faced. Maybe you are dealing with conflicts with your significant other, teenaged children, financial struggles, all of this can make depression/anxiety/trauma harder.

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that who you are makes sense. I am an ideal fit for clients who want to make a change in their behavior while understanding the way those behaviors have functioned.

Change can be scary, and you should be proud that you are taking the steps towards that change. The fear of the unknown can be paralyzing enough to keep us in circumstances we are unhappy with, but change will only occur when the pain of things remaining the same becomes greater than that fear. This is a feat you should truly be proud of!

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
