I am licensed in both MD and OR. I do not believe in an ideal client. As humans, we are all unique and need different things to thrive, so I will work with you and your experiences to help you be your ideal self. Your experiences do not have to define you but can aid in personal growth in one way or another. If you are open to self-exploration with a mix-bag of feedback, I believe we can work well together. This journey is not always a pretty one but can be rewarding.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve spent a long time being strong for others, pushing through pain, or feeling misunderstood. I believe therapy works best when it feels real, collaborative, and safe enough for honesty (even the messy parts). My style is warm, affirming, and direct. I balance compassion with gentle challenge, humor when appropriate, and a strong belief in your ability to grow. I don’t believe in shaming or “fixing” people, my goal is to help you better understand yourself, break unhelpful patterns, and build a life that feels more aligned and sustainable.

My ideal client is someone who has reached a point in their life where they recognize that something needs to change. They may be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from themselves and others. Perhaps they are struggling with anxiety that makes it hard to focus, or with depression that leaves them feeling stuck and unmotivated. Some may be navigating life transitions such as relationship challenges, grief, parenthood, or career stress. Others may be carrying the weight of past trauma or experiences that continue to affect their daily lives.

Finding a therapist who fits for you is challenging; you are not just seeking a service, you are starting a relationship. This can seem like a frightening proposition; but it is also an opportunity! Rarely in life do you enter a relationship with the expectation that you will need to be vulnerable or that you will be able to explore the dynamics of how you interact with the other person directly and frankly. Clients who are interested in exploring these dynamics or in learning strategies to cope with the challenges of day-to-day life are the ones who benefit most from my therapeutic approach.

Intervention Therapists
How does an intervention work?
An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?
There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?
While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?
Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
