Meeting with a therapist can also be anxiety inducing especially if you are a private person, you have trust issues, trained not to share your problems with others, or there is a negative stigma about seeking professional help for relationship and/or mental health in your culture.
Congratulations on taking the first step to a new beginning. I would love to assist you during your transition from the life you have now to the life you want. As a Doctor of Marriage & Family Therapy and trauma specialist, I am passionate about treating issues caused by stress, anxiety, depression, addictions, relationships, parenting, PTSD, culture/religion, and family building. My aim is to help others improve their overall well-being by assisting clients with enhancing their emotional intelligence, developing effective communication patterns, facilitating positive behavioral changes, and identifying healthy coping strategies.

I work with adults, with an emphasis on recovery from emotional, physical and sexual abuse or neglect, recovery from abuse trauma and post-traumatic growth. Trauma survivors often develop creative coping strategies, including dissociation, in order to tolerate abuse and to develop internal resources. These coping strategies are critical to survival and are well-respected in our therapeutic relationship . I also work with circumstances where there is an imbalance of power and lack of recognition of the individual's right to respect and dignity. I strongly believe that every person has the right to be treated with respect in all aspects of life.

My hope is that the counseling relationship provides you with the security to feel comfortable in your own skin, valued, and understood.
All people deserve to be valued, no matter their age, ability, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. They should also have the freedom to choose how they experience life. There is no one perfect way to live. People come to therapy with various life experiences and levels of understanding, that is why there is not a one size fits all approach. Your journey is your own. As your therapist, my goal is to provide you with a safe, affirming, and empowering space. This means that I will treat you with unconditional positive regard, congruence and empathy. I believe that every person deserves these things on a human level.

Together, we will work towards your personal goals and build a therapeutic relationship where you can also have a genuine connection in session.
Whether you're going through a life transition, experiencing something difficult (externally or internally), or want someone you can bounce thoughts, feelings, and ideas off of, I'm here for it. I believe when we take the intentional time to look at how whatever is going on for you is impacting your mental, emotional, physical, and relational health, and how that might be preventing you from reaching your goals, we can not only gain a lot from the therapy process, but also enjoy it. We can work together to talk it through, break down barriers, generate insight, and create positive change in a supportive environment.

Are you a smart, feelingful, sometimes intense man or woman who knows you can make more of your life than you have? Are you going through a turbulent time, frustrated in your life and yourself, struggling in a relationship , knowing you're not using your talents and intelligence the way you could? Possibly adult ADHD is tripping you up in ways you don't realize. Or it could be other emotional, relational or family issues. You want someone who listens closely to what you feel and what's going on in your life and your relationships, not to "validate" you but to understand, see the whole picture and help you move forward on all levels.

I help people suffering from harm/violent OCD, contamination OCD, just right/perfectionism OCD, relationship OCD, religious/scrupulosity OCD, symmetry OCD, sexual orientation OCD, existential OCD, sensimotor OCD, pedophilia OCD, suicidal OCD, or health anxiety.
Are you consumed with disturbing automatic thoughts? Do you spend hours chasing, analyzing, reviewing and giving meaning to the them? If this sounds familiar to you then you have come to the right place. There is hope and recovery is possible. I will teach you how to change your relationship with anxiety by looking it in the face and walking towards it instead of walking away. It is easy to stay trapped and believe the false messages that your OCD feeds you. I will teach you how to rewire your brain into no longer believing those false threats that your brain is torturing you with.

I provide services for clients who I believe have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I offer a professional relationship with my clients to assist them in exploring and resolving difficult issues. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. Self-awareness and self-acceptance are goals that sometimes take a long time to achieve. While some clients may need only a few counseling sessions to feel complete, others may require months. I offer a caring, empathic space to explore, heal and to try new ways of being.

Though practiced in cognitive-behavioral and behavioral technologies, which show promise in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, he also believes the relationship itself is an essential ingredient to and catalyst for change.

I have been practicing for over 15 years and see patients with a wide range of concerns and struggles. I specialize in treating eating disorders, trauma, and related issues in adults and teens. I understand that it can be difficult to seek help; therefore, I highly value establishing safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship , and allowing each patient a unique path to health and healing. I also work to collaborate with a treatment team, such as physicians and dietitians, when physical or medical issues need to be addressed.

I enjoy doing insight-oriented work and believe that the treatment relationship is an important part of successful therapy.
I have 30+ years of experience working with individuals in psychotherapy. I provide a safe and collaborative environment in which we can develop a relationship that promotes healing of the self. Therapy is art as well as science, and I combine compassion and intuition with a solid theoretical base to provide treatment that encourages personal development. I believe our early experiences influence the way that we process our later experiences, and therapy can change how we understand our lives so that our responses can become more adaptive and healthy to live happier, more fulfilling lives.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
