Sometimes even the smartest and most capable women I know feel stuck. It could be moving beyond an issue in a
relationship
, anxiety, perfectionism or it could be an eating disorder or traumatic memory. You may feel like you are underperforming in life and relationships or just completely overwhelmed with everything going on. When we do not have the social support we need or just not sure how to use our social support, it can be helpful to talk to a professional and get objective feedback. To be asked thought provoking questions. To get ideas with how to move forward and start thriving in life!

I bring to the therapeutic
relationship
many years of life experience, and unconditional acceptance.
I believe there is an innate desire within every human to be seen and heard, and to receive value and significance. For so many, a message filled with lies was internalized, “Who cares what I think? My feelings aren't important.” My NUMBER ONE focus is to create an atmosphere where my clients feel at ease, and valued and given the freedom to tell their unique and personal story. The meaning of “Therapy” to me is this, “Therapy is the miracle of, “You tell” and “I listen”. Therapy is the wonder of being heard and understood.” The goal of therapy is for the "best you" to emerge as skills and strategies are learned and implemented.

Together we will explore possibilities and new directions, thereby releasing stress, inner conflicts, dis-ease, self-defeating cognitions and dysfunctional relationships. Embracing change leads to feelings of joy, aliveness and at the same time peacefulness and calm.

Congratulations on seeking help! You have taken your first step on what may be a long but rewarding journey of healing and self-discovery. It takes real courage to face what may be overwhelming fear, despair and self-blame. But you don't have to struggle with the burden of hopelessness alone. Others that suffered in similar ways have gotten help even when therapy has not worked in the past. Whether one struggles with stress,
relationship
difficulties or crippling self-doubt, therapy is used to identify barriers and cultivate tools that bring fresh perspective and resources to address the problem at hand. Tele-therapy available.

I enjoy doing insight-oriented work and believe that the treatment
relationship
is an important part of successful therapy.
I have 30+ years of experience working with individuals in psychotherapy. I provide a safe and collaborative environment in which we can develop a
relationship
that promotes healing of the self. Therapy is art as well as science, and I combine compassion and intuition with a solid theoretical base to provide treatment that encourages personal development. I believe our early experiences influence the way that we process our later experiences, and therapy can change how we understand our lives so that our responses can become more adaptive and healthy to live happier, more fulfilling lives.

I have been providing individual, group, family, and
couples counseling
for over a decade.
The primary goal of counseling is to provide the most effective therapeutic experience available to you. The purpose is to help facilitate behavior change by improving the client's ability to establish and maintain relationships, enhancing the client's effectiveness and ability to cope, promoting the decision-making process, and facilitating client potential and development. Clinicians cannot fix other people's problems; our job is to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows the individual an opportunity to build the necessary skills needed to make better choices in their life.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
