As a strength-based, psychodynamic clinician, I am first and foremost client-centered, yet also enjoy implementing attachment-based and IFS work.
Are you naturally introspective and seeking clarity on how to better understand yourself, your relationships and your inner world? Have you always wondered why you feel different or been questioned about being "too sensitive?" Have you had to deal with unique challenges in your life such as chronic pain, neurodiversity, or healing from a series of emotionally unhealthy relationships and friendships? I aim to provide a safe space to explore the questions that you may have always wondered about. My hope is to help you get to a place where you can approach your life from a more confident and stronger sense of self.

I believe by exploring our past experiences and relationships we can find answers to better understand our own behaviors and thought processes. Our best healing happens throughout the context of a safe relationship and that is what I offer in therapy; a safe place where my client can explore their pain, trauma, hurt, and confusion in order to heal and live the most meaningful life possible. My clients know what their goals are and are excited to get to work but may need more accountability or support. Sometimes they aren't so clear and I can help with that, too!

I understand how debilitating life can be when you have experienced trauma and/or phobias, and I don't want to see you suffer for any longer than you already have. This is why I often utilize Accelerated Resolution Therapy during counseling. ART doesn't require you to share details of your experience, and many concerns can be addressed in 3-5 sessions! Imagine being able to go to the dentist without fear, or perhaps you'd like to just experience life without anxiety constantly getting in the way. If you've been considering counseling and now feel ready to make the leap to improve your life satisfaction, I can help!

You may notice the push-pull of opposing experiences in your mind at the same time. On one hand, you feel joy, but on the other sadness. Maybe you feel excited, yet something reminds you that life is hopeless and depressing and it’ll never work out. You’re worried and anxious, but you still muster the courage to show up every day for what that scares you most. You're embracing the aging process, yet you long for your youthful body. Perhaps you love your partner, yet also despise them. Or you’re torn between staying in a job for financial security, but you also want to live a life of passion, freedom, and creativity.

Things have a way of not working out the way they we thought they would. The stories of our lives begin in the families we are given with all of their foibles and experiences. Pages that become chapters of pain, trauma or loss can engulf the one that feels trapped in the narrative. After a plot twist of epic proportions, I left a 16-year career in the intelligence community and began a new chapter. I’ve had to confront the sources, rewrite the narrative, consult the author and find myself in the pages. The refinement process can be a horrific one but in the truth, freedom is found. Together, we can find healing.

**Telehealth Available** I know that you have a "pretty good" life. Perhaps you have done some work in therapy before, and things are finally stable. Yet, you sometimes feel like you are playing a part, rather than embracing and expressing your authentic self. You may feel uncomfortable in your own skin, self-conscious, or like you are not "enough." You may struggle to find your authentic voice and honor your values in your relationships or career. Life circumstances, societal pressures, past trauma, depression, and anxiety can all create obstacles to experiencing inner peace, trust, and confidence.

Sometimes even the smartest and most capable women I know feel stuck. It could be moving beyond an issue in a relationship, anxiety, perfectionism or it could be an eating disorder or traumatic memory. You may feel like you are underperforming in life and relationships or just completely overwhelmed with everything going on. When we do not have the social support we need or just not sure how to use our social support, it can be helpful to talk to a professional and get objective feedback. To be asked thought provoking questions. To get ideas with how to move forward and start thriving in life!

You’re not alone in whatever you’re going through. The vast majority of us deal with these types of issues at some point in our lives. The crucial question is, how do you navigate through them? Seeking the support of a compassionate mental health professional can be a step in your lifelong journey of learning to thrive, not just survive.

I am a psychotherapist with clinical training influenced by relational and systems theories. I hold a stance of preemptive radical inclusion to create experiences that involve all clients’ identities in the room.  I enjoy working with individuals, partners, and families to develop meaningful connections in their relationships, improve self-advocacy, and explore identity.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
