Men's Issues Therapists in Crofton, MD
I have experience in therapy, diagnostic test administration, and evaluation in private, clinical/hospital, and correctional settings. I have worked with clients to address their therapeutic needs in a safe and judgment-free zone, including depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and personality-based disorders.
I believe the pursuit of mental wellness for oneself should be as natural and fulfilling as possible, especially if one is not socially or culturally accustomed to seeking out treatment. I work with others to be more aligned with themselves – in care, in learning, in rest, and in growth.

I believe in helping people to become happy, healthy, and whole. There is something spiritual in nature about the counseling process that I like to lean into to help others become the best versions of themselves. I enjoy the process of helping individuals to heal, cope, transform and thrive. I consider it to be a privilege to be a part of that journey. I am good at fostering a positive therapeutic alliance that is vital to building a solid foundation in which to grow from. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to work through their issues.

Relationships can sometimes hit a rough patch as life has a habit of "getting in the way", adding stressors that even the strongest relationships find hard to navigate without professional support from time to time. Sometimes it can be challenging for a couple to be kind or thoughtful of each other's needs or find the time to talk about current problems without escalating the issues. It is not uncommon for couples to experience problems listening to each other or enjoying each other's company. I have helped hundreds of couples find their way back to the loving relationship they want and need!

You're likely here because you've already tried everything else like talking to friends or family, reading self-help books and listening to podcasts...you’ve maybe even tried therapy before. You've tried to do it alone. And yet, you are still struggling. Maybe your worries don’t stop or when you think about the future, you imagine the worst. You might feel never quite good enough no matter what you accomplish. Sleeping could be difficult, your mood might be irritable or down, and/or you feel anxious and on edge all the time. You are not alone! I have been there as have all of my clients.

My ideal client is someone who is diagnosed with anxiety disorder. These symptoms develop in childhood and are still present through adulthood if not treated. Individuals need to face their fears with the support of a therapist. By trying to remain calm, without becoming overly anxious or having a panic attack. My goal as a therapist is to help them build their self-confidence so they can control their fears and feel secure. I work with clients to remain calm and practice breathing techniques. I build empathy with my clients by explaining that they are not alone in their struggles.

I love what I do as a psychologist and have enjoyed working with many different people. While my profile reflects some populations and treatments I've had more experience with, I won't narrow down my list of preferred clients because I don't have such preferences. Whom ever walks into my office always has something that I can connect to & see an opportunity for change. In addition, I know that the person who presents for therapy with a certain set of concerns may reveal to be a different person with different sets of concerns as sessions progress. The bigger variable is whether I'm the right fit for you. Hopefully I will be.

Being a teenage boy or young man who's struggling isn't always something you can put into words — and traditional talk therapy doesn't always work for guys who aren't used to sitting and talking about their feelings. That's where I come in.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
